Most of my computers run Gentoo, but I still enjoy the odd computer game...just can't escape Windows. Pushing DirectX was the best business decision MS ever made. If games had stuck with OpenGL (as they used to), the switch to Linux would be far easier for game makers.

Personally I think we need to start having liability suits for this kind of thing. Microsoft costs companies a ton of money because their developers still haven't figured out how to code secure software. Of course since in a lot of ways, they are the only game in town, they have little incentive to change. More competition, or make security problems no longer an externality for Microsoft.

I've tried Slackware, and SuSE. Both times I got frustrated and gave up too easily. Is there some good documentation out there, I should check out?

The only Illusion I have is that I can Install Software/Hardware easily and without inducing thoughts of suicide! 😉

Security is always an issue, I've taken steps to minimize risk.
