Microsoft Recalls Xboxs sold in Japan.

What you will not find announced in the press is that a significant percentage of the units shipped in the US also had this exact same defect, but Microsoft did not issue a recall for fear of losing momentum, therefore screwing over tens if not hundreds of thousands of customers, who in most cases got stuck with defective units that they were unable to return for a refund.

STAY AWAY FROM XBOX.

Uhh.. what's your source? It states in black and white in the link that there were NO reports of this in the U.S. The press didn't just not "announce" it.. they said there were none.

The Bloomberg article says that one of the DVD drives creates minor scratches on the disk, but that even with the scraches the disk still works. So basicly the only thing that doesnt work in the Xbox is something that microsoft didn't make, and that defect is minor.

Wow.

That are going to repair 243 out of 125,000 systems because 243 idiots put their game in the wrong way. The other 99.8% of Japanese XBox owners did it right.

Would Someone please tell me why this is news?

They aren't going to repair 243 boxes, they are going to repair 125k. It has been RECALLED by Microsoft, where earlier it was just "ok we'll fix it".

Why does it matter?

Japan 1, Xbox 0

Japan has held the console arena for the past 15 years, and this was the first system in ages to attempt to make its way into the market and it's been recalled. You think that's good press?

Not every unit is effected, and I doubt everyone in Japan that has one is sending it back.

Read a reliable article, MS clearly stated that this is NOT a recall. They stated that they will fix any defective machine. The press just adds words to make people read the article.

Sorry, but you are wrong.

Yahoo News Story

And I quote:

Microsoft Corp stepped up its efforts on Thursday to deal with an increasing number of customer complaints in Japan over scratched discs in its Xbox video game machine, offering to repair or replace any defective products...

"We do not consider this a recall," Microsoft spokeswoman Midori Takahashi said, adding that the scratches found on the edges of the DVD (digital versatile discs) did not interfere with game playing.

They are repairing 243 consoles out of 125,000. So yet again, tell me why this is news.

<< "We do not consider this a recall," Microsoft spokeswoman Midori Takahashi said[/b] >>

Who cares what Microsoft considers it? A recall is a recall.

Microsoft has been caught submitting fradulent evidence to a Court of Law. Never trust anything that Microsoft says.

Obviously the XBoxes are all defective and Microsoft is recalling them. Do you think Bloomberg would make things up?

Because it's Microsoft, and people just LOVE bashing Microsoft. Sony had far worse problems when they launched the PS2 in Japan, but for some odd reason, Sony is the still considered the "good guy" in the video game biz.

Besides, it's not offically a recall. Try reading some of the other stories about this a bit closer.

I love Microsoft Haters. They ignore the facts and just keep on dishing out the hatred.

have you ever lied in your life? If yes, I guess I can never trust anything you ever say (according to your logic). Also, show me exactly where they submitted fraudulent evidence. They may have misled, but almost every trial in history contains that. You just hate microsoft and are willing to say anything bad about then whether it is true or not and no matter how stupid it is.

There are no ignored facts mfclay, maybe only misinterpreted. I'm going by what was reported over at VE, not someone directly affiliated with Microsoft. If it's not a recall then I'm wrong, I'm only going by what information I've read elsewhere. Whether it's a recall or not, it does not help their situation at all. I imagine the Japan lovers will be cackling all night over this (regardless that the PS2 had problems, they're going to love seeing the US console having trouble).

I have never perjured myself in a Court of Law. That is a very serious offense, much more serious than lying.

Microsoft has submitted fradulent evidence in a Court of Law, in other words it has committed perjury. See here here here here here here here here here here and here.

<< Also, show me exactly where they submitted fraudulent evidence. >>

Letters were submitted to a judge asking for linient punishment on MSFT. Telling the judge how much it would hurt business, etc. It was later found that these letters were from dead people. The Utah attorney general had a big deal about it. I posted a thread in OT when it happened (been a long time, last year sometime). MSFT was to blame of course, and I don't remember where it went. I'm sure they denied it was them but was an interesting story. Evidence? dunno about that, misleading perhaps, maybe not fraudulent. Their actions certainly don't put them in the good light (regardless of the huge contributions they make and stuff, people just don't like the big guy).

The links you specified show that it was not perjury. Just because it ruins their credibility does not mean that they INTENTIONALLY lied.

Well folks, this thread is useless now. So for all the Microsoft or XBox Haters, SUCK ON THIS:

Microsoft Clarifies Erroneous Press Report About Xbox in Japan

REDMOND, Wash., March 7, 2002 -- An apparent misinterpretation of information on a Microsoft Japan Web site resulted today in a media report of a recall of Microsoft's Xbox? game console in Japan. This report is incorrect. There is no recall of Xbox in Japan or any other market.

The Xbox Japan Web site did report that Microsoft Customer Care Japan had received a small number of inquires (significantly less than one percent of systems sold) from customers reporting small scratches to the outside edge of some game disks after use in the Xbox game consoles. While this is not a common occurrence, and minor scratching is primarily a cosmetic issue that does not affect performance, a positive customer experience is of the utmost importance to Microsoft. Xbox Japan responded accordingly in its statement offering to evaluate any Xbox system that a customer is concerned about. If a system needs to be repaired or replaced for any reason, Microsoft will do this immediately.

After successful launches in North America and Japan, demand for Xbox continues to be high in all launched markets, and production continues at a rapid pace. Microsoft will launch Xbox in Europe and Australia on March 14, 2002.

It clearly was perjury. Just because perjury charges have not been yet filed does not change the fact that they submitted fradulent evidence.

In fact, just yesterday, Jim Allchin (head of Microsoft Windows division) admitted in an interview that the video evidence in question was "simulated". That's just a nice way of saying "fradulent".

<< Microsoft Clarifies Erroneous Press Report About Xbox in Japan >>

This is an unsuccessful attempt by Microsoft to save face by lying.

How can anybody believe a corporation that has submitted fradulent evidence to a Court of Law, and continues to lie about it to this day?

Lying in court is a different matter.

Your supposed to tell the truth...it's not like anywhere else.

Some Microsoft Haters I admit do sometimes overlook the facts.

But I would be careful on your wording. You are waaay too general. There are so many reason why I do not like them. I understand the world of business,
I'm in the sales department. I understand business tactics....but Microsoft goes beyond what is ethical. Microsoft is not the only
company which does that, but I sincerely believe that it is beyond a doubt it's the one who has played the dirtest to achieve it's
position in the business world. Microsoft has an image. People don't buy products from Microsoft because they are good products,
but because they come from Microsoft. They think, it's Microsoft, it's gotta be good. (excuse me while I puke).

The sad part is...some uneducated people think that Microsoft invented everything which is computer related besides hardware.
They assoicate Microsoft with a computer. If I mentioned Linux, they would probably ask what version of Windows Linux runs on.
I've actually spoken with someone who thought Microsoft created the damn Internet.

One of the reasons (yes, I am giving you a reason, suprised?) why I do not like Microsoft is because they do their best to remove
the control you have over your computer. You think you can custimize your windows desktop? Ever tried customzing a desktop in
X-Windows? The sense of freedom and control there is overwhelming.

And that is just one example.
