Microsoft Phone Interview

I have a Microsoft phone interview in a few days, which will be over LiveMeeting and include myself coding some examples.

They sent me some stuff to study, but what else should I look over? I don't know that much C++ or C# as I mainly have done PHP and Java.

Um, what position? Which team? MS is something like 65k employees and I'm pretty sure they don't all have the same job description.

For which team? None of those titles provide enough detail to answer your question. (And there's a HUGE difference between developer skill and PM skill requirements.)

Ok, well, you're not qualified for PM unless you have other prior experience, so don't worry about that.

You'll probably be asked about the gamut, particularly MS specific technologies since they are MILITANT about not using competitor tech.

.net might be one to consider. Leaf through a C# and C++ book to at least make it sound like you're familiar with it if they ask basic questions.
 
My MS interviewer asked me some bizarre questions, I guess they wanted to see my "creativity". Did not get a call back on that one 🙁.
 
At a career fair a few weeks ago, I asked a Microsoft representative what programming languages they want candidates to know. He said that as long as we knew Java, we would be fine. He said that knowledge of a language isn't important since its so easy to pickup a new language.

I'm kind of afraid of the technical questions. I figure they will be creative type questions with a technical background. Those type of questions are things I like to think about over an hour or two. I already have an internship lined up over the summer but figured I shouldn't pass up an opportunity to interview with Microsoft.

Besides using Windows OSs, I really don't have that much experience with Microsoft technologies. But according to a Microsoft employee who came to my class a few times, they could care less if you are an Apple fanboy or Linux nerd. They actually have people who spend most of their time on Linux machines, and plenty of workers own iPods.

I use to have a list that I recorded of all the questions asked to me and some answers I could give. I'm going to have to do some quick thinking.
