Microsoft Optical Mouse Problem

Just purchased a Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical USB/PS2. I have it connected to my PS2 port. During normal use or even playing a game, the pointer on the screen travels in any direction except the way I want it to go and will sometimes freeze at that position for a few seconds...pretty annoying when trying to play a game. Any one else has this problem and how did they get rid of it? By the way, I just purchased his mouse a month ago. I am running Win Me on a 1.2 Athlon with 512 Meg of memory.

I would guess it's a driver problem as well, but...

I have an Intellimouse explorer. I got it, installed the included drivers & got nothing but crap. If you move the mouse more than an inch per second the cursor jumps back & forth all over the place. Uninstalling the driver doesn't help. Had to reload windows. The old, standard intellimouse drivers work great. I have repeated this problem on two systems running either 98 or 98SE, one a PII333 and the other a Tbird 850.

Well, I dunno whether my info will help or not. But I indeed experience this with MS Mouse. In Win98 family, if you set the IntelliPoint 3 mouse speed to max, and you set the acceleration to med or max, the mouse will move 'crazily'. But so far, my system doesn't freeze because of this. IntelliPoint 4 don't have acceleration setting, it is build in into the mouse speed. So if using Win98 family, I will normally don't set the acceleration to max to avoid this problem.

Only NT family can support the acceleration setting without problem, inclu XP. Hope this help.:)
