Microsoft Office

Hello

I installed microsoft office on my computer, and now I would like to install it on my laptop. I guess I only had a trial version of it on my laptop because now it's saying I need to enter a serial code to continue using it. All of my microsoft word files can't be edited, only viewed now because of this.

The bad news...I can't find my microsoft office serial code, can't even find the disks anymore. Is there some way of finding it out LEGALLY or should I purchase it again?

I don't know the answer to your question, but if you need an urgent fix you should give openoffice.org a chance. Its a way to at least get access to your stuff (legally) until you can figure out whats going on. It is a full featured office suite that has some major improvements coming soon in the 2.0 release.

Edit: It would be useful to know which version of MS Office you are using sprecifically (2000, xp, 2k3, pro/standard, and so on). They used different methods of keeping the key in the system.

IMO, the only advantage open office has over MS office, is that is free. if i had my choice of either one (cost not an issue) iw would use MS office in a heartbeat. Excel dominates for stats/scientific uses. Word's features are better (for example how it underlines words you have misspelt). I find MS office to be much quicker as well. oh yeah and outlook is a good program i think.

anyways my 0.02. in all fairness i haven't used openoffice since 1.1.4. I did like it, just not as much.

Darn...apparently that's not it. It says I need to enter a "25 digit code" when mine is only 20. Hmm...

Ahh I think I see the problem. I don't think I have Word 2003...I think mine is an older version or something. Is there still any way of finding this without my cd's? (legally)

I agree. Some excell sheets will be a mess when opened in Open office, and I do like Word better.

But for the average user, MS Office is simply too much. I bet the run-of-the mill Windows-MS Office user doesn't use even 20% of MS Office's power, and Openoffice would be more than enough. Its being free makes it incredibly attractive.
