Microsoft Office XP............anybody else scratching their heads???

As to what the hell it does any better than Office 2000?? I've been using it for a bit and I've yet to see any difference. One thing it does have is more links to MSN and sh1t!

I love it... i like the multiple highlighting feature especially. Also, it loads a lot faster than Office 2k. Would i pay $600 for it? No way. But if you check some of the prices in the Hotdeals section, they can be nabbed for as low as $150.

What did Office 2000 do so much better than Office 97? What did Office 97 do so much better than Office 95? Has there ever been a real need to upgrade office suites?

The interface is tweaked a bit but thats about it from what i can tell. The basics haven't changed much.

Even the clipit thing is still there............

I have still yet to try out the speech engine....I can't find my microphone...

Other than that...the task pane has a few possibilities, but I can't really see any other truly useful features.

I stopped upgrading after I used notepad for all my wordprocessing. Who needs fancy features now!

i think outlook is a bit better, and its faster at correcting my mistakes. the voice recognition is promising, but it doesnt work too well unless you train it a lot

Yes, it's hidden. No need to utilize this beast.

I think Office XP is a very good product - no, I don't work for Microsoft and I actually hate lots of their products. For the typical user who types a few documents a day and maybe works on a few spreadsheets, then there is little difference between '97 --> 2000 -- XP. However, with Access, quite a few developers had issues with '97 and 2000 in which the issues should have been resolved with XP.

Putting Office XP aside, Visio 2002 Professional is an awesome product. I owned the last version (Visio 2000 Enterprise) and I can appreciate all of the stencils that come with this version (Palm devices, wireless phone, Mac G4s, flat panel monitors, etc.) These new stencils allow you to create some decent diagrams. However, a few of the features from the previous Enterprise version are not present in Professional. But, there is an additional pack that is supposed to be released soon to provide these options.
