http://www.tomsguide.com/us/microsoft-xbox-one-domain-xbone,news-17546.html

After Microsoft's announcement of the Xbox One, the gaming world was all aflutter trying to figure out how to appropriately nickname the console. The PlayStation 4 can easily be shortened to PS4, and the Xbox 360 as 360. But following that nicknaming convention, the Xbox One would just be called One.

As a result, quite a few names thrown out, including the cheeky nickname 'Xbone.' Of course, the nickname's stuck, if only because saying it is sure to cause s******s and not because it's actually the most catchy or appropriate moniker.

In any case, Microsoft's not amused. As a result, it's registered the Xbone.com domain to prevent anyone from potentially wreaking havoc with a parody website. Microsoft director of Xbox Live programming Larry "Major Nelson" Hyrb has expressed his displeasure on the nickname via a post on NeoGAF. He stated that, "I don't like it… it disrespects the teams that have put thousands of hours (already) into the development of the product. Sure, it's cheeky, but I don't care for it myself."

Whatever Microsoft's efforts may be, it seems like the Xbone nickname has already stuck. In fact, it seems the company's making a bigger deal out of the name than anyone else.

And I have no doubt that if someone else had actually registered it and put up nothing related to Xbox or MS they would have sued to get it. Company lawyers have no boundaries and companies like MS have no sense of humor or humility.

I guess cause MS didn't expect people to be so immature. All the hoopla after e3 with xbone, xboner, xboned etc.

I don't even know how people started calling it Xbone.

XB1 or X1 makes so much more sense.

I'm afraid it basically started off as a joke, but now we've been basically forced in to a situation where you're going to have to call it the Xbone for the next seven years.

There was no reason to be a first grader about it. Just complain and vote with the wallet but the internet is filled with children who claim to be 20 something years old.

The best part is, MS reverses a situation people don't like and instead of people saying "Oh, they listened to us! What a relief." Nope, they chastise them more and make up childish names about them.

XBone is less ambiguous than XB1. I think of the first Xbox when I see XB1.

I thought it was because when it was announced... Microsoft was shooting themselves in the foot left and right.

*Always online requirement*
"Don't want an online system? Get the 360." POW!

*Can't sell your disc based games*
"But we have an awesome sharing plan we won't give you details about. " POW!

*You must have Kinect connected to use the system*
"We have no good advantage we can describe to the user other than 'Wait and see the possibilities!'" POW!
Etc.

So the system was "boning" itself, thus Xbone.

But now all that crap stuff has been reversed and XB1 is now a very appealing system (to those that hated those items). Other than the price tag, I don't see any real complaint anyone can make anymore. Maybe that you're *forced* to buy the Kinect, but meh...

XBone is easier to say than X-B-One. Or X Box One. X-Bone. Easy and just flows much better. Microsoft setup the name to do this, it was intentional. So why not go with it?

So much this. Xbone should be a fine system now. They're down on power, but have some great IPs. This should be a 50-50 system war or at most 55-45 which I could see going either way.

I don't really see the $499 price tag sticking in this economy for more than one holiday season though. Even $399 is not a long term price point that will work for many families. Both the 360 and PS3 didn't really fully take off until the magic $299 was hit (this used to be $199 before inflation and the economy tanked, and with outsourcing, loss of full time jobs w/benefits being replaced with part time stuff due to corps wanting to skirt the ACA, etc). We at AT are mostly a blessed group who make enough cash to buy luxury stuff. Hell I probably have almost $4k in my PC in the past year, and I'm not exactly a baller by any stretch. But honestly, most of the economy is in shambles.

Pretty much what will happen. Unless in the next year or so there is a shift one way or the other for a major game. Like if there is an online game that is just too hot on the ps4 or something. Otherwise it will be split pretty evenly.

As for what the nickname is.

Or Microsoft decides to bone its policies up again. They are going through a very major management shift over there.

Yeah cause being a douchebag day in and day out for no reason is just soo cool.

Did you forget that video games are a hobby? A Hobby meant to be fun and entertaining. You aren't trading stocks with millions of dollars on the line when you play Halo or CoD. Taking them seriously kills the fun.

I am trading stocks of bullets for millions of dollars in deaths when I am playing CoD!

These statements make me laugh. I had a gamestop emplyee tell me that he "heard that MS will be bringing it back once they get the systems out". If MS wants to make money on this console, they have to sell it for the next 6-8 years. The install base will be quiet small after the first 1-2 years, so they wouldn't be dumb enough to just bring back all the stuff people hated. Console wars aren't "won" in the first 1-2 years after release.

That's right, they are won by the moms and dads decking it out over the last one in the stores!
