microsoft messenger

does anyone know how i can turn off the microsoft messenger, i dont use it and it always keeps coming back after i disable it in msconfig.exe??

Small picture: right-click My Comptuer, choose Manage, go down to Services and Applications > Services, and stop & disable the Messenger service.

Bigger picture: if you're being pestered by direct Messenger spam dialogue boxes with an OK button on them, then you have some serious shortcomings in your security arrangements. If so, holler.

Or were you meaning MSN Messenger?

go into
START
RUN
type MSCONFIG
look in STARTUP
if you see anything to do with msn, untick the box.
APPLY,

Or you could uninstall it.
I think that one way this can be done is by going into the ADD/REMOVE WINDOWS COMPONENTS in the Add/remove programs [control panel]

it is the process msmsgs.exe i can't get rid of. i thought i removed it from windows but i guess not becuase it came back on when i rebooted

try going into START
CONTROL PANEL
ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS
SERVICES
find the ah heck in there and show it what it can do with the msmsgs

open m$ messenger, click tools, options, preferences, uncheck run at startup and uncheck run in background then ok.

there ya go
