This is not really true anymore. The first versions of wireless mice from Microsoft had really big issues. The new v2 version is MUCH better and more precise...

well i think even the new ms cordless doesn't use a 800dpi sensor. they sorta fixed the refresh for the transmitter though, but frmo a review i saw its refresh was a tad wacky.

The corded version may not be for the North American market. If you google for Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 4.0 -wireless, you find it for sale at a number of places in Europe, South America, and Asia, but none in N. America.

I think Microsoft might be giving up on corded mice.. I RMA'd an optical "blue" corded mouse, they sent back a Wireless Optical Mouse 4.0 - a mouse over twice the value of the one that died. The only reason I can figure is that they're out of corded equivalents.

I got the wireless Explorer and keyboard for Christmas. Think I can still return them? I used them for about two hours before going back to my old setup.

No idea really. I had the receiver maybe three feet from the mouse.

I have the wireless version of this mouse, and it is indeed excellent. I upgraded from an Intellimouse Explorer 3.0a, and briefly used a Logitech MX700. I tell you from personal experience that this mouse ROCKS. Battery life is superb--I've had the batteries in it for three months now and I've hardly sucked any life out of them (approx 80% left on the meter). Ergonomics are outstanding--as with any tool, it's how YOU grip it that determines a large portion of it's "naturalness". Use a light touch, there's no need to crush it or any mouse with your meathooks. The complaint that this mouse is bad for gaming is totally unwarranted, I've read the review that said that. The author cites the mouse's power saving feature as the cause for problematic performance, but it only activates that feature if it hasn't been moving for a while. The difference between this mouse and my corded Intellimouse is non-existent in Counter-Strike or any other game I play. This mouse is also considerably lighter than the MX700 I had. Even with two AA batteries, it's not heavy by any stretch. Another interesting improvement is the mouse "feet". They seem to be wearing much more slowly than the ones on my old Intellimouse Explorer.

Take it for what it's worth, I was skeptical of a wireless mouse, too.

I can't stand the fact the the wheel no longer has tactile feedback for the rolling motion. These "notches" were quite useful for games, which would treat them as a button press.

BTW, I saw them at BEst Buy two months ago.

I have the leather version and it stinks for gaming........ Worst part was I could not find a game (and I own a 'few' ;)) that benefits with the tilt wheel as of yet........ Wireless... BAH !!!

Got the wired one today. It is absolutely horrific for games.

The fact that the notches arent there would seem to be a problem that you could get used to. But games now register even the slightest movement of the wheel, and so what would usually be the distance between clicks now circles you through all your weapons about 5 times, because it registers so many notches. Which makes it officially useless.

Scrolls much nicer in windows though.

Ouch that definately has to suck. I think I wanna give this mouse a try though.
