I had high hopes from these articles, like some sort of new horrendous exploit or corruption was going to take place, but they only talk about "Microsoft Security Essentials" and "Microsoft Malicious Removal Tool" being discontinued. Meh, who even uses those programs? Just about as silly as saying "XP is insecure because IE6 won't work anymore". The OS is probably better without them. Long live XP :awe:

Software I wrote and now support has to still work on XP based machines (Damn Control-Alt-Del) but my test XP machine isn't connected to the internet or even my intranet. Still if clients of my software like the US Navy can purchase XP maintenance contracts I now feel slighted. Perhaps I contact my government liaison and have her see if the Navy's umbrella can cast some shade on my humble support machine (Ya that will fly - Not).

I ditched Microsoft Security Essentials and Microsoft Malicious Removal Tool has never found anything on my coomputers so not scared that these have gone. i use Windows XP with decent firewall, anti virus and decent browser. also even with windows 7 never use internet explorer beause it's always been rubbish and never been secure. don't get me started about the most rubbish anti virus Microsoft Security Essentials which couldn't catch anything.

I also still use my Sony Vaio centrino Pentium M with Win XP sp3 with firewall only browser Google Chrome,no virus protection nothing i only use it to watch live stream events and i very much rely on google chrome+Adblock Plus to be my protector and with great success,no problems whatsoever,but if some virus show up,i have an easy solution,i have a cloned hdd just ready to go just swap hdd and format hdd and clone again,and that's it i'm in business.

Meh, plenty of better third party solutions will keep on supporting it. The Malicious Software Removal Tool has never cleaned a GD thing since its inception so that's not important. All that ever did was make Windows Updates take over an hour as opposed to twenty minutes.

It took up to Win 7 for Windows embedded security tools to catch with the top security software.

I always used with XP the Kerio free Firewall + Avira Anti Virus + Whatever free Tool that was designed for the particular type of infestation that might "possess" the "Soul" of the OS.

it's ok because i have lots of £ and the UK doesn't pay Microsoft for Windows XP support anymore and just tells poeple what websites they can visit, porn and facebook,twitter,social media etc is not some of the safe sites.

i will be ok with windows xp and when i hjave to stop using windows xp then i will be using ubuntu 14.04 lts instead of windows 10 because i am only a light gamer.

Puffnstuff you think i'm going to trash out a perfect old sony laptop centrino 1.5ghz 1g mem non PAE system that runs perfect on web browsing and streaming on Win XP, i also use it to stream video with RF converter to the whole house,you call this living in the past? i have 2 Intel I5 desktops ,2 Hp Duo core laptops ,i could very well trash this Sony old laptop but if it does a good job why should i?

Well, Windows XP came out in 2001. Can't blame MS for cutting support for that.

I'm glad actually. My workplace has a lot of OS inertia. My machine is on XP but I'll finally be able to move up to Windows 7 soon with a new machine.

Yes. Throw it out the window and buy a NUC or NAS. And you browse the web on it? With XP? On a centrino that is slower than a 2014 smartphone? :\

I usually turn off speedstep on my centrino and browse at 800MHz. As long as you're not running something bloated like Windows Vista/7/8/10 that will eat up the RAM it is smooth and works well for web browsing and everyday tasks (I wouldn't run youtube videos at anything over 360p on it though).

360p in 2015? Not even 480 or 576p? *Shudders*. If that is all it can do imagine a javascript or heavy HTML5 page too.
