I think the part that amazes me most is that someone was actually paid money to write up the patent information on the double click.

The thing that will destroy the patent is "prior use", or whatever it's called. You can't take something that everybody does and patent it - your patent has to be for something new. Therefore, we just have to get together and document all the uses of double clicking from before M'soft applied for the patent. Then we sue for pain & suffering, or whatever.
