Microsoft Explorer Mouse (Optical) keeps locking once in a while

Does anybody else have this problem? I installed WINXP and every now and then, the microsoft explorer (optical) mouse keeps locking. Installed the latest driver. Installed the latest bios for my motherboard, etc. Is the mouse just broken? I tried plugging it USB and with the PS2 converter, the same problem with both.
