Microsoft Exchange, Outlook, and Linux

Can Linux be used to run a Microsoft Exchange server so that several people on a small network could share one Outlook file? I'm not sure how it all works (I might have to buy a special Outlook for all I know), but someone I ran across a blurb that said Linux could run exchange, or something like that. Is this true? The office I work in has about 3 computers, and to sync Outlook, everyone has to email each other appointments. It is a terrible setup.

Any thoughts on how to setup a better appointment system? They are currently using Outlook, and doubt they would want to change, but if there is a Linux version that would allow everyone to use one calendar, they might be willing.

Let me know your thoughts. I would appreicate it!

Sincerely,

Condor Beedee

VMware let you run MS-OS on Linux, and then Exchange can be running on a Linux box though emulation.

There are several emails servers that you can get to work with Outlook, noticeably SUSE mail & ComuniGate Pro.

As for the client side Mozilla Calendar can be share as long as the email server supports WebDAV.

Forget running emulation, if you don't need Linux for anything specific, it's just a waste of money and resources...

As a mailserver? ehhh... it comes with every distro... sendmail...

I would rather use a web based calendar than anything else, published so everyone can update on the road... plenty of ways to do that...
