MICROSOFT DXVA WMV-HD ACCELERATION PATCH OUT!!!!

Purevideo? I read DXVA and IIRC both NV and ATI products are supposed to support this to some extent. I'll try it on my ATI X800XL later tonight.

It only works if you use a driver that supports it. I believe the 67.03 driver is the only one out. Don't quote me on this as I'm just speculating.

what content are we using to test? specially encoded video or just video in general?

I applied the patch and tried the Step Into Liquid WMVHD video and CPU usage didn't change, nor did GPU temp. So I guess it doesn't do anything for that video?

*EDIT* I'm using the 71.89 Forceware with my 6800GT.

supposedly... the 6800 GT nor any of the 6800 series except for the PCI-express version of the 6800 (non-GT and Ultra) and 6800-SE will work with the WMV-HD decoding per nVidia's page.... Only the 6600 and 6200 series will support the WMV-HD hardware decoding.

Sorry... I have a 6800 GT too and was very upset to discover this...

I thought all 6800 GT's (PCIe & AGP) won't be able to use PureVideo (the video processor isn't enabled through the latest drivers or they cannot be enabled or something?). I'm gonna try it on my 6600 GT when I get home.

Edit: Damn, Demons was 1st.

But the Microsoft patch refers to DXVA... not Purevideo. Maybe I'm confused...

I'm still around 85-90% CPU and GPU temps went up a degree.

Post #10,000! I'm officially an e-Loser 😛

85-90% with what video? And what processor?

My Venice @ ~2.6 only runs about 50-55% CPU usage during the whole length of Step Into Liquid (720p).

Step into Liquid 1080
6800GT, Winchester 3000+ @ 2.5GHz

I played it again and I magically had sound 😕

6800 GT...maybe that's why.

Uhh, no. I'm using the 1080 version which is higher resolution and much more CPU intensive.

See Demons' post above. 6800 GT's don't support hardware accelerated decoding of WMVHD.

6600GT with 76.45... No go on the installation. Waay too lazy to change drivers.. Though I am still curious to see others' results.

As i said week or so ago my purevideo works for mpeg2 now 1st time ever in WMP with last build of Nvidias dvd decoder (30 day trial) even in power dvd, so longs Nvidias dvd decoder in WMP has hardware box ticked.

This new patch for WMP does nothing for wmvhd im still mostly 100%.

I dont even think this is the purevideo fix or it would mention it.

I have a Chaintech agp 6800Ultra and same as all other owners since day 1 my PvP didnt do sh1t, and this changed for me last week or so when i tested, not sure if its newer nvidia drivers or newer wmp (i got beyond main sites build) or mix of both, but i did put some patch on for mpeg4 fix of somesort just for the sake of it few weeks ago even though i had no issues with playing mpeg4.

Maybe if i fomat i will lose my working PvP, i have no idea, all i know is i more than halfed my cpu useage playing back DVD's.

It seems to work for me. Sorry I reposted, I was so excited I didn't search lol.

I didn't have to reboot for this to work.

Step Into Liquid 1080p:

Using Video Mixing Renderer 9: ~40% CPU now instead of ~70%.

In the end, zero frames skipped.

------------------------------------------

It seems like it doesn't work for any of you guys. Did you also install the other hotfix at the bottom of the DXVA hotfix page? There's another one under More Info...not sure what it is I didn't even install it. It's working for me anyway. It could be I already had it installed from the SDK. It's an update for Windows Media Format 9 runtime.

MORE INFORMATION
Note This fix enables DXVA support after you meet the following prerequisites:

? The graphics adaptor must support this DXVA update. For more information, contact the driver vendor for the latest driver that supports DXVA.
? You must install hotfix 891122. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
891122 Update for Windows Media Digital Rights Management-enabled players
? The content must be WMV-HD (Windows Media Video High Definition) clips (720p and 1080p) with a frame rate that is less than or equal to 30 frames per second.

------------------

OK so acceleration works but we still don't have the extra video correction filters NVIDIA promised.
