Microsoft Domination?????

well they have practically unlimited resources, & both of those products, if succesful, will pull in a lot of cash

Yeah that's true, but I don't know if they will be able to unseat Apple. I'm a Creative man myself. I just don't see them being able to take much marketshare from Apple. And they need to be a little more competitve with pricing. I read somewhere that the Zune was going to be $349 - $399 for a 30GB player!!!!!

I don't see a problem. If they want to do it then fine. If people don't like the stuff then it won't sell. It isn't market domination, and unless somehow that MP3 player is extremely amazing it won't debunk the ipod, too many people like them too much. (Not me though, I hate those things)

I am perfectly happy with my 100gb Archos and my 4g 40gb ipod. If the Nano goes 100+gb in the same SFF then I would consider something like that. MS thinks they can sway the market on anything they want. They have dipped they paws in so many things and abandoned so many of them that its pathetic.

yeah, they are big enough to do it, is the Zune look good now?

It's a mistake to think that being "big enough" and having enough resources means that it's a good idea to enter some line of business. I think an argument can be made that MS is overextending itself in terms of executive resources and directional vision, in a panicky quest to make sure they cover all the bases. It's pretty hard to argue that these sidelines are all good ideas when your core business (i.e. Vista) is not running very well.

I'd have to agree with you Mark. One day, we may see BG on 60 Minutes talking about how MS became so big and lethargic because it overextended itself like the new CEO of Sony! 😉

Announcing a Zune phone now is a good idea. As flash memory gets cheaper and increases in capacity, we're quickly getting to the point where we can have a flash based MP3/Video player with 64 GB of storage embedded into your cell phone. With that much space, who will need an iPod anymore?
