Yeah right. They are already bleeding cash out of the ass, there is no way they can go down to $99. $149 is probably more in the lines of reality.

Um, they could care less how much they're losing on every console they sell. Like stated above, there's no profit margin on the XBox at any point in time the XBox has been available.

That's true, they are losing cash on every console they sell already. I seriously doubt $99 though, $129 would be my lowest guess, which isn't unreasonable for either side.

$129 would set up a great XBox + 2 controllers + DVD/Remote + Halo 2 for $199 deal I'm thinking.

Actually... nm. I'm not really seeing that deal in my head. No way Microsoft would include Halo 2 for anything - they want to reap the MSRP profits off that game like they did with Halo. Which, IMHO, is one of the top 5 games of all time. No way XBox would've survived without Halo.

just because they don't expect to turn a profit on it and are willing to take a loss doesn't mean they're ok with taking a huge loss on the hardware either. by your rational, they should just give it away for free since they dont expect a profit from them anyways just to get more units out.

Cool, maybe I'd pick up an Xbox then. Although it would be kind of funny that I'd buy an Xbox but 0 Xbox games. $99 for a good MAME/NES/SNES/etc. emulator would be a bargain.

I have an X-Box and only one controller and one game (Soul Calibur 2).

Um, how did you get that from my rational? Like I said in my original response to your post, COGS gets lower with time and volume. The "huge loss" you and dwell are envisioning is probably a much much smaller loss now at $179 than they had when the XBox sold for $299.

supply and demand, console demand is down 27%, games on the otherhand are doing relatively well, maybe someday i'll park one next to my like brand new DC 🙂

sure it gets lower, but i think 1/3 of its original selling price (they were selling at a loss on launch) is a little extreme don't you think? smaller yes. but i think its still way bigger than you think it is.
