How'd you get from "Microsoft (MSFT) considering buying Citrix Systems (CTXS)?" to "Microsoft buying Citrix"?

Even the title of the article is a stretch. It's all speculation.

Not sure about Citrix the AT member, but for any Citrix employee, one of the first considerations would be the buyout price per share... :)

Of course I meant the former, I don't care about the latter :p

another MS type move, they release Terminal Services, Citrix makes it usable, develops a market etc, then MS sweeps it all up. Profit.

I just deployed the v.10 client install to 2000 2003 server boxes, so I'm really getting a kick out of these replies.

Well depends on the situation with Virtual Machine Licensing.

Do you have to buy four Vista's if you get a quad core CPU?

What about when it gets to 8 cores, 16, 32 etc?

Has that been determined yet?

I don't think this would necessarily be a bad thing. Citrix doesn't have a really awesome product but there are some advantages. Seeing them rolled up in to the MS products would be beneficial to a great many companies.

CITRIX just acquired XenSource..an OPEN SOURCE Hypervisor compnay......

if they did it, it would be to kill off Xen since their own Virutalization isn't set to debut until 180days after longhorn server 08... I doubt they even care about xen since vmware would've been a better target purchase because of the usage of their own custom kernel

.....and as for gaining virtualization technologies, it looks like they are set...just behind...

what hey could get from citrix itself in terms of applications access would be worth the $$ though

I thought it was already decided on a per-socket basis.

That looks like a bandaid only throug hexisting licenses...

with sun releasing a 64thread/chip T2, intel and AMD have to step up, and MS will have to adapt...

from what I've read they might end up billign on clients served and "value" that the client gets out of the software...

?

I'm just saying that billing per socket, as virtualization proliferates in SMB's MS could sand to lose out on a lot of profits....

such as oracle which reduces rates but doesn't outright eliminate them for extra cores...

My brother works for Citrix, I don't think this is good news for a lot of current Citrix employees.
