In a candid interview today, Microsoft was asked about the reasoning behind the Xbox 360 Elite. They said "With the Sony in the UK calling the US the land of the cheap, they hurt our pride." When asked for details, they replied "We had all our best guys working on it, but we could only get upto $480, we weren't able to obtain the PS3's $600. This worries us, but matching the black color and using the word "Elite" should help atleast get us closer."

Nintendo was unavailable for comment, however we did spy a plastic supplier delivering 24 different colored sample Wii cases.

What are the odds of someone (me) getting one of these? I wasn't able to reserve, and April 29th is a sunday. So should I show up at the store at opening time, or are enough being shipped that I can go after lunch or something? Thanks.

It would surprise me if they sold well... it's nothing particularly exciting for the $80 price jump.

But then again I didn't think the Wii would sell out on launch day... or for the next 4 straight months.

will the HDMI out have an effect on the HD-DVD quality/resolution versus component cables?

it depends on your equipment...if you are routing it through a receiver like I am, yeah, since it's bandwidth might not be able to handle it....

It's a parody site of course, but the joke fails a little if you consider

Elite + wifi adapter + HD-DVD drive = $777 list!

Not that there's much point in buying HD-DVD since blu-ray is beating it so badly :)

where do you come out and say blu-ray is beating HD DVD.... look how many standalone HD DVD players there are in the US compared to standalone blu-ray... Almost all blu-ray players are ps3s.... format war is still far from over.

Blu-ray discs have outsold HD-DVD by 2 to 1 so far this year. Most players are PS3s but PS3 owners do appear to be buying and renting plenty of discs.

The war isn't over yet, but unless $200 HD-DVD drives come out soon the outcome is looking grim for that format.

I read somewhere this is not a limited edition thing. It will be regularly in production

its because it has been out now for 1.5 years and they are increasing the price. Should be decreasing.

Wow, Microsoft is starting to make really damn retarded statements like Sony too. Way to go MS, I'm sure that's exactly what you wanted.

Yep. That is insulting. They bypassed the 1.5 year markdown. Most of the time, consoles drop at least $100. PS2 went from $299 to $199 IIRC.

We will probably have $200 HD-DVD players this year. Maybe not the Toshibas, but there are the Chinese players coming this year. Sure Blu-Ray is clearly ahead now, but HD-DVD outsold Blu-Ray all of 2006. With a few titles the sides could change again. The war is just beginning.

The new 360 is ok I guess. I like the white 360s better. I think if Microsoft really wanted to move these things they should release the Elite at $399, and drop the Pro down to $299. Either drop the Core to $199, or just cancel it.
