That would be a horrible blow to gamers. Microsoft would make EA stop producing games for the PC, PS3, and the Wii.

If EA left the PC gaming market, perhaps it would open the door for studios and publishers that are not yet consolized and perhaps don't ever want to be consolized, such as Ironclad Games (Sins of a Solar Empire) and its publisher Stardock (Galactic Civilizations, Demigod).

That's a great point. PC gaming pretty much started like this, no huge developers but many smaller studios putting out quality games.

Idk, MS would probably shrink EA, MS itself is bloated. Hopefully MS would fire all the PC devs, the PC devs would regroup and find new ways of distribution, such as STEAM and new publishers eager to fill the gap. Who knows, but MS is a disaster in the PC gaming field.

Please explain this comment. MS is a very profitable company; large, but in what ways is it bloated?

They are a conglomerate, and they are streamlining now. I guess that's why they shut down a lot of dev studios.

If you think about it, it's actually in MS's best interest for PC gaming to be successful.

Sure, they jumped into the console market because there's a large market for it and many people go that route.

On the PC side of things, if PC gaming is popular/growing it of course encourages PC purchases to play those games.
More PC's sold = more MS OSes and to a degree more MS applications sold (Office, Studio, etc.).

Here's a case where even (game) piracy is a benefit to MS as it would contribute to PC popularity.

I don't think EA is the way to go, but maybe they're interested in one of the Devs/Studios EA has license too.

Didn't MS pretty much back the Age of x line of games?
Maybe my memory's off on this, but I don't think all MS games were bad.

Most people already use Windows. There's not much market share up for grabs in the OS market. Windows already won.

They use to make lots of good PC games. But now they've closed down all their PC gaming studios or converted them to Xbox excusive gaming studios. They aren't making PC games anymore. And any games they buy the rights to publish they usually demand that they cancel or delay the PC version.

Microsoft is doing everything they can to squash the PC gaming market, and get people to switch to the Xbox.

I can't see it happening, but it will be nothing but bad if it does.

Bad? EA stopped making good and quality games almost a decade ago. I celebrate the day somebody makes EA stop cranking out garbage and destroying innovation by buying every promising game studio.

So, since it can only get better from here on, I'd welcome their new overlords from redmond. Unfortunately, its not going to happen... :(

Microsoft quit making any PC games.

Microsoft is just as bad. They've destroyed as many studios as EA has. Just this year they've shutdown ACES Studio and Ensemble Studios.

Things can always get worse. Unless you count getting no PC games as an improvement.
