Microsoft has decided to aggressively target iPad users in an attempt to get them to convert to its own Surface RT or Surface Pro tablets. The Redmond, Washington-based software giant says that users who bring in a "gently used" iPad 2, iPad 3, or iPad 4 will get at least a $200 gift card to the Microsoft store.

Guess this is one way to get rid of the billion dollars of inventory sitting in their warehouses. Any takers?

They might have more luck moving the Surface RTs for 150 without the buyback. Not much profit, but the iPad 3&4s are much better spec'd devices with a much more mature OS than W8RT. Guessing there's probably not too many people willing to take a downgrade like that. Maybe some of the iPad 2s though?

Scratched-up iPad 2's in "acceptable" condition sell for $240+ on Amazon, and "gently used" go for $300+.

Not a good deal.

I would rather the iPad 2 over a Surface. Especially a jailbroken one. Better GPU, better apps, more capability.

Microsoft store credit? Meaning you can only use it for apps or contents, not hardware?

I have been burned by Microsoft several times in the past I won't make any MS "account" for monetary transactions. Never, ever.

I bet they'll make more money selling used iPads than they will selling RT tablets.

Exactly. Anyone of those Ipad should be able to pull 300+ easily still. Apple is like Honda, king of resale value.
