Microsoft Anti-Spyware

To my IT brethren:

What is your take on the Microsoft Anti-spyware? Is it effective?

At the univ I'm at, we just got some newb student workers who are throwing it on everything instead of our own tried and true method. I haven't had time to run it through its paces, so I figured I'd get your input.

I use a combination of adaware, spybot search and destroy, and spyware blaster. Not once has any pc i have used this combo on get spyware.

You know those don't stop spyware... They only find and uninstall spyware AFTER it has been installed on your machine.

You know those don't stop spyware... They only find and uninstall spyware AFTER it has been installed on your machine.

spywareblaster does stop spyware. Thats the whole point of the software.

spywareblaster does stop spyware. Thats the whole point of the software.

and why would you use 3 low rated minimum effectiveness peieces of software to do 1 softwares job..
spysweeper has proved in test after and review after review to be the best on the market...

Run a scan after your so called manual cleaning and tell us what you find.

Spybot has some functions to prevent the installation of spyware.

We use Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D, and the occasional Hijack This as needed.

Spybot does block in real time, but we use these since most comps already have spyware on it.

Yeah it is interesting. :light:

The verdict there is Microsoft AntiSpy (Microsoft bought Giant AntiSpy), and Spy Sweeper is the best Combo.:thumbsup:

love it, although some bugs need to be worked out.

Such as setting the schedule to do scan on tuesday and it scans on saturday. that's weird.

I like it quite a bit. Seems like it requires less work and also is less intrusive. The only complaint I have is when it pops up a little window in the lower right telling me it updated my definitions. It doesn't interrupt my current process, but it does make it so I can't click anywhere in that area in WoW until I alt tab out.

It's a minor annoyance compared to the intrusions of norton anti-virus. Which turns itself on even if you turn it off and interrupts you frequently.

I use HiJackThis exclusively now. If the crap can't start, it won't be a problem.

ive been using the MS antispyware along with adaware and spybot since its been publicly available and i gotta say i've been really impressed... i was expecting the program to be bloated and intrusive but i hid the systray icon and the only times i even remember its installed is when i get home from class every now and then and a completed scan report is sitting on my desktop!
it also surprised me today by making skype ask for permission before starting up automatically with windows... gotta say i love it! i use a samurize config so i know what my system load is at all times pretty much and nothing has changed since i installed it, its just as fast etc...!
