Microsoft announces support for Opteron and Athlon 64, both 2003 Server and XP

Good news for AMD.

MS says "Middle of 2003", both Windows XP and 2003 Server.

That might raise an interesting question. AMD said they are delaying the Athlon 64 until Sept when the Opteron is ready in April. The reason they said for the delay was since there wasn't a 64-bit version of Windows ready. So if Microsoft releases it in say June/July will AMD still delay it until September? Of course Middle of 2003 could actually mean September...

There will probably be a beta version for those who want to test the 64 bit goodness, until then running Windows 2003 32 bit won't be bad or maybe Linux 64.
