Is there really any practical choice? Don't comply and you're under investigation by the NSA. The IRS will come down on your company and those in charge. OSHA and/or the Labor Department will show up. Sooner or later either you will comply, or you will be destroyed. Big Brother is the Borg. (Actually funny that I know that meme since I've never seen a single episode with the Borg.)

this, it's not microsoft's fault that the US government pressures every US company into handing over data whenever they feel like it.

don't hate on microsoft, hate on your elected officials 'murica.

Microsoft still claims to not be providing "blanket" access, but OP's article casts serious doubt about that.

I agree with Google's stated policy of pushing out specific accounts & info when requested, not letting the government in to datamine everyone's accounts.

All this is further proof that more transparency is needed so that the privacy conversation that Obama claims he wants can actually happen.

I assume everything I send or communicate via internet is in some database. If I need to send something particularly sensitive, I have this nice little tool called Truecrypt. Throw in the encrypted file as an attachment to an email, the government can try to crack it for as long as they desire.
