Vista? That reminds me of some resort place for some reason.

I think thats the point.

Imagine this: You go to buy an operating sytem, and you see Windows Vista. You imagine the peacefulness, and the relaxing atmosphere...the fact that everything seems to work for you, the day is perfect and the night is full of romance.
By purchasing Windows Vista, its like a vacation to an exotic resort that never ends...

😉

It reminds me of an old folks home. That's bad. Very bad.

The name seems to fit with Microsoft's commercials. It's not too bad. I think we'll get used to it really fast.

I do another few whois searches and all time out... Finally it comes back as being registered as of July 22nd (today). :|

Version names are fine.

NT 5.2 it is.

Or is this going to (officially) be NT 6.0?

<slide>

When is Intel going to dump the PENTIUM name and come up with something new???!

the really stupid thing is that NT started with version 3.0. there was never a product called 'windows NT 1.0.' two possible reasons: 1) regular windows was on version 3.0 or so when NT was released; 2) the NT project grew out of the split between IBM and MS over the direction of OS/2, which may have gone through a couple of versions and given MS a codebase that already had 2 significant versions.

of course, knowing that, you realize that if normal naming conventions were followed, XP would be Windows NT 3.1. and of course 3.1 was the first decent version of windows

I think Vista is a better name than NT, ME, or XP. Most people are so accustomed to those names now that they probably have forgotten how stupid they sounded at first. Anyway, I don't care what it is named. If it's an improvement over XP, I'll buy it. I've been happy with XP Pro.
