Microsoft active sync software is driving me nutz.

I have 2 pocket pc's one is mine and one is for the wife. Everything works fine. It is the active sync software. My wife and I switch users constantly on this xp machine. I start to notice that there is a couple of instances of the acitve sync software running in the tray. I click the arrow to reveal hidden icons and see up to 10 - 12 instances one time. When I hover the mouse over the icons and they will disappear except for one.

I figured I would take the startup procedure out using startup.cpl and start it manually when I need it. Well when I start active sync it will put it back into the startup. I had it running and I removed the startup using startup.cpl and the wife checked her email. When I switched back it had put it back in the registry again. Man I looked through the options and couldn't find anything pertaining to the startup.

Anybody have a solution for me? Occasionally having many of these running makes the system very sluggish.

Thanks.

Well the best way to find out what is or isn't running is from Task Manager. Click on the processes tab and check "Show processes from all users." I assume your user has administrative priveledges. The process name for ActiveSync is WCESCOMM.exe. I suppose you can kill the duplicates if any. You probably would want to look for a better solution though.

Maybe this utility could help you: Download Startup Selector from here. It will let you very easily restore your startup configuration to what you want it to be. Then I suppose you could run it before you reboot or shut down. There is also a "StartupMonitor" utility that prompts you if you want to allow changes to the startup.
