Microsoft® Windows® XP Media Center Edition 2005

Just bought a HP Pavilion M7350n with Microsoft® Windows® XP Media Center Edition 2005 installed.

Reading up on this software it looks like it is very restrictive as to what you can do with it regarding licenses.

The main reason I bought the computer was for the inouts so I can record different from differnt devices then edit slide shows or video and useing a third party program like Proshow Gold or something similar to make DVD's

Did I make a mistake?

I don't understand what you mean by being restrictive as far as the licenses go. I've been using media center for over a year and haven't had any issues with it. You can't record cable (there's always a way around) or satellite by default but that'd be the only real restriction i can think of. If you're using 3rd party applications then thats completely different. You can capture video and edit it til your hard drive's full 🙂

I don't really understand the OP's questions...

Of course you can record cable & satellite by default.

If the content is flagged as protected than MCE will follow directions to now allow you to copy it off, etc. However this is generally only going to apply to HD content (standard cable typically doesnt even support this).

I've been able to use it for anything and everything

I can record from cable, and from sat when I had that (changed to cable a month ago)
I have been able to play any format in any way I choose (provided I installed the right codecs when necessary)
I can stream it all to the Xbox360 for big screen viewing (even divx/xvid thanks to the wonderful transcode360!)

So, like the others I am not sure what your problem/question is?
