Microphone static sound.

Hi there,

I am using a Acer TravelMate 8104 with Audigy 2 ZS sound card. When I plug my mic into the mic input and try to record something, there is some static sound. Could it be my mic or is there some setting that I must change? I used the same mic at home on my desktop and it worked perfectly fine.

loose plug? maybe the input level is too high (distortion?). is it only static or is it static plus the voice? what kind of mike?
 
Its a generic mic but it works fine with my desktop. When i record anything, there is a buzz sound in the background.
