Microphone problems... Any advice?

My new system has been purring along with no problems until I decided to try out my microphone = no sound. Well, I guess I should say no recording. When I speak into the mike I can hear myself through the speaker, but when I try to record my voice (using Windows ME sound recorder) Windows picks up nothing. I have tried all of the usual things, making sure the mike sound is turned up and not on mute. No conflicts. The strange thing is that I talked with my cousin with the same microphone on Yahoo voice chat and he could hear me fine!!??

This wouldn't be a big problem since I normally don't use the mike, but I wanted to give Voice-Chat under Gaming-Options a try. AOE-2 would be that much better w/voice trash talk. I have messed around with this for a few hours now and am about to give up.

I am using A Guillemot Maxi-Sound Muse sound card with Windows ME. The rest of my system specs are in my sig. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I had a similar thing happen to me before not being able to record in sound recorder but out of the hundreds of problems I have had, I don't really remember the solution to that one.

I would first make sure that your sound recording volume is turned up. That is different than just the sound volume. Click on the sound icon in your tray twice, then click on the Options menu, Properties option, click the Recording button, click OK and see if your Recording volume is turned down.

I had that problem in Win 98Se Maybe my solution will help. Got to control panel then multimedia click on the mirophone icom under recording and then make sure microphone is selected. Hope this helps good luck

Thanks for the replies and suggestions. I checked and my recording volume is at about 3/4 and my mike is on. It's times like these that I wish I would have stuck with trusty 98se... A lot of things are slightly different in me and I think I am just missing something somewhere
