Hi, I recently changed my motherboard to a P4C800 Deluxe. I am using the onboard sound with it. The output sound from my speakers is fine. However, my microphone doesn't work with it. I have to speak very loud and bring the mic very close to my mouth for it to be heard, and even then it is very low and muffled. I know my mic isn't broken, because I tried it on another computer and it worked fine, and I also managed to get it to work for a while on this computer. I made sure my Microphone volume setting was not on mute and was all the way up. I also made sure MIC BOOST was selected. I tried several different versions of the Soundmax driver. One time, I managed to fix it, and it was working fine. All I did was uninstall the driver I was using(1985WDM_3583) and install another version (1985WDM_3581). When that version was installed, my mic worked fine in the sound recorder, but later when I tried using the voice chat in a game, the same problem came up, and I went back to sound recorder and it went back to the same problem (very low sound and muffled voice). This is a new motherboard and I have a fresh copy of XP (I just reformatted about 5 days ago). I am using version 1016 of the BIOS.
By the way, I am using the on-board RAID controller for 2 36gb Raptors in RAID 0. The raid controller is off the ICH5. Which means it shares PCI bandwidth. I currently have no PCI cards. If I buy a new sound card, will that make my RAID setup be a bit slower? Thanks in advance for any help.
