I don't know why I even click into these threads. All it does is torture me due to the fact that I live 8 hours away from my nearest Microcenter.

Great price.

Awesome price but i really despise the selection of AM3+ motherboards. Most of the cheaper boards sub $100 seem to have VRM issues and/or throttling with the entire FX 8xxx series of cpu's.

For those who already have a nice 990 chipset board and maybe running an older Phenom II or FX 4-core, this would be a no-brainer upgrade!! :)

I have an ASUS M5A99FX R2.0 motherboard with a 1090T. I use it for an ESXi host. Is the FX 8320 worth spending $99 to upgrade? I don't overclock. When I search for "1090T vs. FX 8320" the consensus is it's not worth upgrading, but the discussions are about gaming as well as from some time ago when the FX 8320 was also more expensive.

For me it really comes down to how the cores compare. If they are equal, then having two extra is good. If the 1090T core is better then I'll save $99.

I would go for it if I were you. You should be able to sell the 1090T for the same $99 or maybe more so it would be basically a no cost upgrade. The architecture of these new cpus is different and the cores are not the same, but these 8 core AMD cpus are pretty popular for the type of thing you are doing. Overall I don't see a downside. You would also be getting a cpu with new instruction sets and features which might just help in a few areas. AES-NI is one of the features I was thinking about there.

Thanks! I'll pick one up.

Do these work well on the 970 boards? I currently have a 1075T on a Gigabyte GA970A-UD3... I almost bought one of the 199.00 4770K's last week but I really didn't want to start from scratch when this system runs really good. I may get a SSD for my boot drive though.
