In store only -- Microcrenter is always having these in-store only deals and the polite thing to do is list "Microcenter B&M" in the title so the rest of us (away from a store) don't get our hopes up.

All of MC's CPUs are always 10-20% checker than newegg.

Was "informed" last weekend by the store manager that they're selling the cpus as a loss-leader (meaning they're selling at or below cost to bring in traffic.) This comment was made as an excuse to not pricematch Fry's one day sale on i5 2500k cpus for $149.99.....which ended up being a successful endeavor for me.

(2500k and Gigabyte Z68X-UD3H-B3 combo for $259.98 and then a $15 MIR on the board to boot, bringing down the cost to $244.98. It was a good day!)

I think he meant $15, not $10. Microcenter has a $50 off any 1155 motherboard when you buy a 1155 Core cpu, so while his motherboard retailed for $64.99, he paid $14.99 for it after the bundle discount on the motherboard.

I think it's true. They do seem to sell for cost or a little less. Which is funny because I usually just buy the processor from them and order everything else online.

Well, for memory or video cards, Microcenter does have a hard time competing.

But with motherboards, MC is quite competitive with Newegg and other places. For instance, I bought the i5 2500K combo with a Gigabyte Z68X-UD3H-B3 motherboard. Newegg's price the day I bought, before shipping, was $169.99......MicroCenter's price that day was $139.99 (which has since gone up about $20, but still cheaper than Newegg, even before the $40 off motherboards in the combo package deal.)

Microcenter can be and often is at least the same price as Newegg....sometimes much better. What Newegg hopes for is blind buying.....so addicted to Newegg one fails to price check anywhere else, esp. a B&M store that everyone assumes is more expensive on everything....which it isn't.

I'm just getting $40 off the mobo :(

And that's exactly what the sale is.....buy a SB/1155 cpu (the Pentium version excluded) and get $40 off a compatible Socket 1155 motherboard. There is no additional discount on the cpu, although MicroCenter's cpu prices are lower than Newegg, so that in essence makes them on sale, too.

(For instance, the i5 2500k is $219 at Newegg, $179 at Microcenter....everyday.)

sorry, could've been clearer - they won't, but if you buy an open box motherboard from microcenter they'll match newegg's open box price, if you buy new they'll match new (or other major online retailers)
