Micro USB-questions

  • If I charge my phone by USB from my computer, do I need to worry about overcharging?
  • I noticed some micro usb cables do not have ferrites on the cable. Is reason why I should by a cable with the ferrite as opposed to not?

I am not entirely sure what the ferrite is there for, but I am almost positive that it has nothing to do with whether or not your phone over-charges.

The phone should know how much battery life it currently has, and it should know how much it has when it is full, so it knows how much it needs. The phone will pull the correct amount of juice from the computer and then stop. You shouldn't have anything to worry about with over or under charging.

that's what I figured. I saw in another thread someone said something along the lines of it needing some overcharge protection. I figured all that was done on the phone as well.

The ferrite beads are there to reduce interference right?

The ferrite bead is there to prevent high frequency noise from getting onto the cable/AC power line.

For 120Hz AC charging it shouldn't really matter, you may notice something wonky going on without it (doubtful) but it has nothing to do with the charging circuity of the phone or overcharging.

mine stops charging on its own. ive noticed it will be warm while charging for a while, but an hour after it tells me charge complete the phone and battery will be cool to the touch.
