I read somewhere that running my MB at 'default' cpu speed, rather than my current OC to 3.6ghz, will for some reason help BBC2 to run more smoothly without stuttering...

True?

Well, if it just started after the patch, you might want to also try renaming the BFBC2 folder under My Documents and then run the game. It will rebuild the files when it runs. You will have to re-do all your settings, and lose single-player saves and server history.

If it doesn't help, you can restore the original folder.

I have an E8400 at 3.8 and a 1gb 4870, which I'm pretty sure is weaker than your graphics card. I run everything at medium 1920x1200 and don't really stutter.
