I just saw the bundle price too! WOW... The bundle might push me over the edge...
🙂

Got an email saying they giot the board ready but the cpu's unavailable. Called in to say there were 20+ 2500ks left when I ordered online so what gives.

They said the cpu was on a first come first serve basis. Went to the downtown chicago store at 2pm Sunday to fine there was over 30 left... nabbed one, my mobo was ready for pickup and the rest is history...

I might be blind but i don't see an order button for the 2500k on the microcenter site. Just says in store only with nothing to click.

It was only available for a little while this morning, especially for web/ship order. Died around 12:30pm EST.

Was 31st in line at Santa Clara and walked out empty. They had maybe 25 2500Ks and 5 2600Ks. I put my name down for a 2600K on the clipboard, but came up just short. Luckily I took a chance at the Sunnyvale Fry's on Arques and they pricematched the last 2600K they had. 🙂

I just wrote MC and asked if they would allow me to add the motherboard to complete a bundle with my "backordered" online order. Kicking myself for missing on the combo (wouldn't add to cart when I tried but found out later that if I added individually, the discount would still happen).

If not, I'm looking for a hot deal on an 1155 board (as soon as the chip ships).

I'm hoping they change back to the old model of higher discount on cpu without bundle deals. The asrock boards seem best bang for the buck and mc doesn't stock them. Either way I'm hoping deals are as good when z series boards launch.

I got in on the $300 combo - $180 for the 2500k and $120 on the Asus P8P67.

Barely.

My day started out with me placing an online order for the pick-up. They had 20+ CPUs and just under 10 motherboards.

20 minutes later, no email. Read policies, "oh, not before 11am Sundays."

Okay, a bit after 11am I got a cancellation email.

Turns out they decided to NOT accept any holds on the processors.

Damn.

Okay, well I already told my buddies I'd show up for lunch, so I drove down there. Borrowed a computer and re-ordered the motherboard, which showed as last one left. CPUs showed as 14 left. Had some nice Mexican food.

Show up at Micro Center (Chi/Westmont) some time around 3pm-ish. There was a single 2500k in the glass case, and maybe two 2600k (not sure, covered by sticker on glass). Hardly any sales guys, which is rare. Waited about 10 minutes for help (guarding that last chip, LOL), before a buddy dragged a sales guy he knew away from another customer who was wasting time not deciding.

Guy said, "guess we have to re-stock the case again. Did that several times already." So, guess they had more. He said they sold probably over 20 of them, and should still have some more in the back.

I did get the last mobo though.

I decided to not be greedy, and didn't get my buddies to buy them for me (I had cash to give them). If I want another one, I'm sure I'll have opportunities in months to come.

Tempting to upgrade old e8400 system with 2500K but what motherboard is decent ?

When I think about it the bottleneck on my machine is my video card and hard drives. Im tempted too but I dont think I would see much of an increase for what I do.

Crise; good price. Esp if you add the seasonic from newegg (125 for x750) and xfx 6870 ($219). Only thing holding me back is that I think I will wait 6 months before dealing with reinstalling windows and I suspect by then prices will be lower (current system is e8400/8800/windows xp). Also I need to find a case 🙂

Same here. I've had my E8400 @ 3.9Ghz for 3 years now -- best CPU I've ever had. But, I'm itching to finally upgrade to SB.

Lot of e8400 owners in here. Probably one of the best chips of all time.

No doubt.

My biggest hesitation about upgrading to SB is my video card. I want to keep my 4890 for a while longer but upgrade now while I can still get a good price for my E8400, IP-35E, and 4GB of DDR2.

Would it be worthwhile to go from a E8400 at 3.9Ghz to an OC'ed SB at 4.5Ghz (more or less), while keeping the 4890?

I'm on the fence for the Gigabyte p67/2500k combo... would be 305 for me after tax and gas money.

That gigabyte motherboard would probably be fine for me but its definitely a low end board...

I'm looking to upgrade this year, but I'm not really in any rush. My system is humming along just fine and I haven't event over clocked it. My SSD was the best performance boost, I've seen in a while. i'm not expecting SB to help with much, but I really would like to have better encode times. I'll likely wait another 6 months to see if I get richer and the itch to upgrade overwhelms my better judgement.

I never had one.

I did have a Xeon E3110 though. (for those who don't know, basically the same as E8400)

I also still have an E8200 sitting unused in the garage, plus I used to have an E8500.

I'm still loving my i7 920 😛

Although, I do think I'm going to build a 2500k based system as a lan gaming/server rig. Just need a good mATX mobo haha.

Shot down! 🙁

superbiiz might still have hello2011 coupon active which makes them the best deal on alot of boards as it covers shipping + a little

I've looked around over there but it is currently hard to beat the MC deals. Until the chip ships though, I guess I'll keep looking and hold off for a better deal.

If you can get the chip from MC, you can equal their combo with the ASUS Pro board by ordering elsewhere. The ASUS is an excellent board, but I preferred the coloring of the GB UD4.

I ordered the $299 combo yesterday and got backorder notices for both. Chatted with someone from microcenter and they said they are waiting to hear from the manufacture how many they can obtain. If they can get the products they will honor the orders.

Oh another E8400 E0 @ 4.0Ghz owner here!

i was kinda surprised it was still good at about 1am Central Sunday Morning

I still ok in our games while also buying from newegg and superbiiz 😛
