I have this Micro ATX case there isnt a place for an exhaust fan in the rear of the case.moreover there isnt room to mod one.The only room for a fan would be either in the side or the top.I was thinking an exhaust fan mounted in the topof the case would be best in my situation. The case is very hot and only has a fan(intake) in the lower front.any ideas about this?

I think you need more intake rather than another exhaust. The PSU should take care of the exhaust. The side would be great. Just put it over the CPU heatsink.

I would recommend a low-cfm intake blowhole over the PCI cards on the side panel, and a higher cfm fan blowhole on the top cover. This way, the two intakes, hopefully one higher cfm (the one already in there) and the lower one (blowhole) will about equal the exhaust: higher cfm (blowhole) and lower cfm PSU exhaust.

Have you tried to take case sides off? All reports I have read state that a positive air flow must be established starting in front of case on the bottom flowing back and upwards. Since heats rises; an exhaust fan on the top would help in this flow pattern. If case is hot; it is very apparent that the heat is not escaping!! Another question is; it ambuent temperature high? Get your compter near flow of an air conditioner.

Have also read that it is more useful to creat a vacumn with exhaust fans rather than to build presure with intake fans. If a vacumn is built up; air will find ways to get into case. If you are going to make a hole in side; why not put it directly over CPU HS/fan and feed it cool air. After passing through HS this hot air is trapped in case. I would use a large 80~120 mm fan to get circulation out top of case. You could also put a slot fan (exhaust) near your video card as this is the second largest heat source in computer.

Good luck
