Michigan nuclear power plant shut down after coolant leak

No evacuation needed, this is not dangerous to the surrounding area. From WDIV news reports.

well, luckily, most cars aren't made there any more, but we'd lose one good basketball team.

not necessarily a big deal , it depends on what caused the leak

or whats leaking. Heavy water = bad

commercial power plants are pressurized water reactors, the story says it was primary coolant, it only has low levels of contamination. the story said it all remained in the primary containment, so that isn't a big deal (other than cleaning it up later).

the most danger from primary coolant leak in a PWR is loss of cooling to the core, but it wasn't a big leak. shouldn't be a big deal. but primary coolant leaks are rare, so again, it just depends on what caused the leak

We almost lost Detroit!!!!!

detroit needs to be rebulit, prolly would been a good thing

Detroit is being rebuilt....poorly. tons of construction, but none of it will last. it's clean it up, make it look nice for the super bowl, then take the money and run.

letting the casinos off easy was a bad idea too.

I remember going on a tour of Fermi I when I was a kid. We had to wear the radiation patches and all, even though the plant was shut down. Walked through one of the cooling towers, kinda cool. :)
