That indicates to me that you would trust a police officer. That is your mistake, they are not your friend. You hand over that phone, they will take it all...no doubt in my mind.

sigh....

I would not hand over my phone. I also have nothing to hide, but I don't believe in waiving my rights.

[obama]Let me be clear:
1. The only way a cop can do this is if you let him or if they have a warrant or you are already under arrest.
2. These are not some super James Bond like devices. They are something that every cell phone store already has.
3. People in this thread are getting worked up over nothing
[/obama]

If you want something to rage about, let me help you out. If you take your phone in to get looked at, the employees are going through your pics, texts and web history. They also have a collection of the best of what they see. These usually get posted to the web. Why not rage over something that is actually happening instead of something that could possibly happen?

Why not rage about both? Everyone needs a good rage now and then. I understand what the devices are and how the cops can gain access. Those points are clear. I don't feel people are getting worked up over nothing. Give your babysitters an inch, the mile is just ahead.

Repeat after me kids, I DO NOT CONSENT TO ANY SEARCH OF MY PERSON, VEHICLE, OR EFFECTS.

My first thoughts turned to a modded phone with nothing but capacitors inside, just waiting to fry the next device to get plugged in to it.

What do you think happens when you refuse a search of your car?
The police use that as probable cause to search it anyways.

Refusing a search does not provide probable cause.

Are you paid a set fee for each post, or are you reimbursed based on hours of seat time?

No one is giving them an inch.

Why is this so hard to grasp?

The people handing over their cell phones willingly are, duh. I think the only person here having trouble grasping something is you.

So don't hand over your cell phone.

This is the same thing as cops collecting DNA for their database. They can't get it without you giving it to them, a warrant, or after an arrest.

How many people have actually had this happen to them?

What information did the police get?

What did the police do with the information?

The whole point is that you people are going bananas over nothing. See my link about what the State Department is actually doing. Or what the EPA is actually doing. Or the TSA. Why not focus on reality instead of whatifs?

Unless you like your tinfoil hat.

I'm worried about what they are doing, could be doing, and will be doing if we let them. Try to plan ahead. Tinfoil hat, lollers good one...

the Arab population in Michigan grew by
51 percent, from 77,000 in 1990
to 115,000 in 2000.

The proportion of the
population that was Arab
was highest in Michigan.
Arabs accounted for 1.2 percent of
the total population in Michigan in
2000.

Keep in mind, these are 2000 census numbers. Dearborn Michigan is now reported to have over a 30% Arab/Muslim population now, by far the highest proportion of any city in the 100,000 population range in the country.

Let's say in Dearborn the M.S.P. happened to pull over a sneaky Bin Laden here on a business trip in a new Lincoln Navigator with dark sunglasses, a shaved face and head, a business suit on and a false ID and passport (see the other news article about new passport rules here). You just know the M.S.P. would certainly want to download this rich but suspicious Arabs cell phone data, even if they let him go after the traffic stop because they failed to recognize him. :ninja:

I'm also sure that Homelessimmigrantland Insecurity is the main reason Michigan was brought under the magnifying glass by the ACLU about this since racial profiling is bad and stuff, ummmkay? :sneaky:

I hope these few minutes reading between the lines was illuminating to you all, and I encourage all of you to think outside the Joker in the Box in the future. That is, if any of you expect to survive in a post nuclear disaster world where governments and the news distort the truth about deadly fallout from massive nuclear accidents in the future like FUKU and Chernobyl because it's just too damn expensive to relocate the entire west coast and western third of the USA to the Florida FEMA camps just to avoid a little deadly radiation, which is now deemed by the EPA and FDA to be GOOD for you in small doses, just like vitamins! :hmm:

So zone out and tune in to FOX news for all the feels good news that the New World Disorder sees fit to tell you about! And it's ALL for your own GOOD, of course! :colbert:
