And to add to the hilarity, rep. Lamar Smith (R Texas) makes it clear that "Going forward, members of the House Science Committee will do our best to avoid listening to scientists."

I think it's a parody.
However, I believe that most of the p&n folks could see bachmann saying such an inane thing and the fact she IS on the United States House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, is a frightening thing all on it's own.
 
The really dumb thing is he did NOT say black holes do not exist entirely, he said Black Holes may not have Event Horizons. i.e. black holes do not exist the way we thought they did.

i assume the new yorker is a real news organization. This underscores the danger of having fake news on a real news organization's web site.

that said, anything posted with a URL including 'blog' should be immediately disregarded.
 
Hawking isn't really saying black holes don't exist, he's just saying that they may behave much differently than we had previously assumed.
