Michele Bachmann vs. Stephen Hawking. Just painful. Edit: For me. Cause I'm slow.

Rep. Bachmann unleashed a blistering attack on Dr. Hawking, who earlier referred to his mistake on black holes as his “biggest blunder.”

“Actually, Dr. Hawking, our biggest blunder as a society was ever listening to people like you,” said Rep. Bachmann. “If black holes don’t exist, then other things you scientists have been trying to foist on us probably don’t either, like climate change and evolution.”

Rep. Bachmann added that all the students who were forced to learn about black holes in college should now sue Dr. Hawking for a full refund. “Fortunately for me, I did not take any science classes in college,” she said.

And to add to the hilarity, rep. Lamar Smith (R Texas) makes it clear that "Going forward, members of the House Science Committee will do our best to avoid listening to scientists."

I don't want to live on this planet any more.

Here's what Hawking actually said about black holes as we know it.

Edit: yup. I got parodied.....

Since the OP has so graciously accepted his error I am closing this thread.

what an embarrassment to humanity. She should be executed now, lest more words from her mouth further doom the progress of our species.

Hmm, someone who is possibly the smartest living person on the planet vs mildly retarded woman who doesn't understand science, with crazy eyes...

Yeah, I'm going to have to go with Hawking on this one.

Even though the article is fake, still would take Hawking over her.

A scientist has revised a previous position!
A scientist has used science!
Someone that uses science has used science!

Tautologies are not useful for arguing a position Mrs. Bachmann.

Oh goddammit! Saw New Yorker. Didn't read that the Borowitz Report was "News Reshuffled". But I could see her saying it!

My shame is now on full display. I'm sad now :(

Pity lock or let a few pile on first?

Please tell me this isn't real.

Worst part is I can see it coming from her. I really can.

I think it's a parody.
However, I believe that most of the p&n folks could see bachmann saying such an inane thing and the fact she IS on the United States House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, is a frightening thing all on it's own.

The really dumb thing is he did NOT say black holes do not exist entirely, he said Black Holes may not have Event Horizons. i.e. black holes do not exist the way we thought they did.

The really dumb thing is people not verifying what was really said, which was nothing.

Hey it happens :D

I was thinking more about those complaining after it was pointed out :D

The tip off for me wasn't Bachmann but "we're not going to listen to scientists". C'mon. :p

So OP was foolish enough to fall for this, not surprised at all. Do people ever check the source?

How could anyone actually believe this was real with that comment?

i assume the new yorker is a real news organization. This underscores the danger of having fake news on a real news organization's web site.

the onion is one thing. this is another.

that said, anything posted with a URL including 'blog' should be immediately disregarded.

Hawking isn't really saying black holes don't exist, he's just saying that they may behave much differently than we had previously assumed.
