The Baltimore bullet has been arrested for driving under the influence in Baltimore City early Tuesday morning.

Michael Phelps was arrested around 1:40 a.m. in the Fort McHenry Tunnel on I-95 by Maryland Transit Authority police.

UPDATE:
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Olympic swimming great Michael Phelps has been suspended for six months from USA Swimming-sanctioned competition after his arrest for driving under the influence in Baltimore last week.

In announcing the decision Monday, USA Swimming also said Phelps will be withdrawn from the 2015 FINA World Championships team and that he will forfeit his funding from the national governing board for six months.

Cool beans, why should anybody care? OH noes! An athlete/celeb/rich guy got arrested!? Let's put that in the news!

WTF he was doing 84 in a 45 zone. He should have just hired a driver if you are going to be out drinking like that.

I wonder when we'll suddenly decide to care about celebrity DUIs the way we suddenly care about professional athlete domestic violence.

He should be celebrated because of his athletic abilities in a pool. Swimming FTW, that's really important btw given where the world is at today.

But he's off limits for talk about DUI and putting others at risk. 84 in 45 while DUI, sorry no more license for this jack off.

HE'S TEH BEST SWIMMER EVAR THO!!! This is suppose to be a very impressive thing, and all the Olympic medals he's won! Truth be told, he's the only swimmer I know by name, and the only reason I know him by name is because of him getting busted for smoking teh weed! Oh and he eats a super uber sized manly breakfast just like me

The first DUI is 10 years old, doubt it will contribute to this.

The state gets to make a lot of money though on a victim less crime.

All he has to do is convince the judge that he isn't human. He swims like a fish, why can't he drink like one?

At 1:40am on a weeknight....of course he was out drinking. I don't agree with the speeding....he made a poor judgment call. Hopefully he'll be more careful in the future and learn from this.

I lived in Baltimore for 10 years. I went to school in Towson, MD (town where Phelps grew up).

Not surprising of this behavior. This is common with many "Baltimorian" kids that live in that area....

DUIs are a racket, but he was going 84 in a 45 while intoxicated. His night (and anyone on the road at that time) could have ended far worse.

he's a moron. was probably coming back from the new casino. i'm sure he has the $15 for an uber ride back home.

I never understood this at all. You're a celebrity with tons of money and you can't hire a full time DD that hangs out in your entourage? Uber black car is only like $40 for a black suv.

While I agree that the fines exceed the basic costs of punishing drunk driving fuckwits, it might also be a deterrent. Calling drunk driving a victimless crime is moronic even by Alky standards. Sure, this particular crime had no victims, but I'm pretty sure Phelps is not the only person who has driven under the influence.

It's just physically impossible for you to say anything without being stupid.

A victimless crime? DUI? More than 10,000 people are killed in drunk driving crashes annually in the USA. The problem with DUI is that it's treated as a minor offense rather than the serious crime it is. There should be a zero tolerance policy, do it once, lose your license and take the bus. Do it twice and go directly to jail.

Phelps has tons of money? Where did he get it from? His lucrative Major League Swimming contract? His endorsement deal with... uh... ...Speedo?

I suspect he get chunks here and there for endorsements and speaking and all that, but I really doubt he has tons of money.

Keep in mind you are on a tech forum with millionaires that merely field tech support calls...
