I did a search and the last topic on him was a month ago.

I'd like an intelligent NFL discussion about the player that I think could've been MVP. I was having a discussion about him with a guy on another board who felt he was a "flash in the pan" ala Culpepper, Quincy Carter??, Kordell Stewart et al.

My argument is that not only can this kid run the ball when in trouble (eye-popping runs I might add) but he can make plays IN the pocket. He really seems to have improved this year and save for that Tampa Bay game, has played fantastically. He surveys the field and rarely seems to give up on the pass, hanging in the pocket for many seconds often.

My team is the Chargers (ugh) so I don't have anyone to really cheer for. The Falcons have become my surrogate playoff team.

Let me know your thoughts on Vick. (other than "Vick rules!" or "Vick sucks!" if you will)

Loved it when I got to chear him on in person at Virginia Tech.

I really wasn't sure if he would make the transition from college to pro's successfully. At VT, his main plays were the options with Suggs and KJ backing him up (all three potent runners). In the pro's, most teams use more of a passing game than running game, and Vick's accuracy was questionable. His ability to throw is awesome, fast, tight and long throws, but the accuracy didn't seem there.

But he has stepped up to the plate and done well. I see him getting better as a pocket passer with very good scrambling abilities.

Anyway, its fun seeing a QB break some linebackers/defensive backs ankels.

He is faster than anybody in the NFL and he's a quaterback. He's 22 and he'll be insane in a couple years. This is his first year starting. I have to admit, he makes everybody on the field look like High School players.

Replace "Chargers" with "Bears" and that's me too. It's hard not to root for a guy like Vick. (Especially against those stupid Packers! :) )

Look how good he has done in his FIRST full season as a starter. hes at least the next Manning or better. All atlanta needs is some defense and a good running back so Vick is not running all the time and they could go all the way :)

But they beat GB AT GB. That is something in itself alone.

Dude, I did the same search just now... :D

at anyrate, I'm impressed with how he handled the packers. IF, he can lead the falcons to victory next week and then winner of 49er's vs. Buccaneers. He'd get my vote as the most valuable player.

can the bucs beat falcons 3 times this season? assuming bucs beat 49er's

Those were my exact sentiments. I knew he was hella fast, but figured NFL defenses would be close to his speed. (Nope) Except Tampa, who has very good defensive team speed.

Yes, I got so tired of hearing how "Vick hasn't seen anything like Lambeau Field".

I feel if he can stay healthy (might be a stretch considering his two dislocated shoulders) he can be great.

Vick is going to get himself hurt if he doesn't learn that it's OK to run out of bounds, slide, take a sack or throw the ball away. Don't get me wrong I think it's great that players try to get that extra yard, I just think he leaves himself far too vulnerable...lets face it, it's not like he's the size of Culpepper who is built like a LB and can just lay the shoulder into almost anyone, Vick is more like a running back. I also think he's going to cost the Falcons a couple games the way he just lobs the ball up for grabs whenever he's close to getting sacked. I watched him when they played my Steelers, and while he did make some good plays, everytime someone almost had him, he'd just throw the ball downfield rather than take the sack. I am pretty sure he got called for a few intentional groundings, and he's lucky the balls werent picked off.

Lets not forget that in 1997 everyone said the same thing about Kordell Stewart after he blew up his first year starting, and now Vick has so much more hype/expectations, it'll be very difficult for him to live up to that, even if he turns out to be a good QB.

I prefer Manning(and others) over Vick.

Personally, I think he should've won the MVP. Here's the way I think about judging for MVP. Hypothetically, take the candidate out and replace him with an average player. I think if you do that with both Mike Vick and Rich Gannon, the Falcons are much worse off. Hence, Vick is the more valuable player.

Or another way to look at it... Take Rich Gannon and put him on the Falcons. I don't think they do as well. Now take Mike Vick and put him on the Raiders. I say they don't have that four game losing streak and end up with a better record.

Don't get me started on Rich Gannon. That guy runs the #1 Mickey Mouse offense around. Dink and dunk 5-10 yard passes. I think you could put Kent Graham in Oakland's offense and they'd still win 10 games.

(For what it's worth, I thought Steve McNair should have been MVP)

His passing stats, except for the TD/INT ratio, aren't that impressive. I'm sure he will do better with his arm as he gets more experienced, and maybe the Falcons will get a receiver or two. I hope he can become Steve Young v2.0.

HAH! "Mickey Mouse Offense" Funny stuff.

I agree with Vick learning how to take care of himself. Often, I'm screaming at the TV, "Slide dude, SSLLIIIIDDDEE!"

Can't argue with that. How bad off would the Titans have been without him???

True, under 200 yards/per is not good. 18/6 (I think that's his td/int) is good. He also had 9 fumbles/6 lost I believe which he should improve upon as he learns the game.

OMG someone said Steve McNair for MVP. I wasn't going to say it cause I figured i'd get trashed for saying it. But Steve had a great season and played through injuries that other people would have sat for. Titans - McNair = Lions type season. If you want a MVP = Most Valuable Player to his team...It has to be Steve :)

If Michael can protect the football more, he'd have less fumbles. I cringe when I see him taking a hit while running with the football in one hand.

I like to see the Falcons go all the way... but for now... just one game at a time. :)

Do you guys think that's a good deal? I guess it depends on how long Vick's career will be.

Dwight came from the Falcons in the Vick draft pick trade. Tim is an incredible player for what he does especially on kick returns.

I thought they already did the MVP voting and Rich Gannon came out #1 and Vick #6? Did I see that wrong?
