While I lost my illusions about Jordan a while ago I have to take this with a grain of salt. Perhaps some guy who got dissed (possibly) by Jordan and who writes for some paper nobody has ever heard of (at least not outside washington) isn't the most reputable source. If this had come out of the Post or something it would be different but considering the source I have to question it.
Edit: the fact that this article was written almost a year and a half after is suposedly happened doesn't speak much for it's credibility either.

NO, he took MARKETING of the game to another level. the level of play has not improved.
you take a lakers team of the 80's or a celtics team of the early 80's and no one today could match up.
Jordans contribution was on the BUSINESS side NOT on the sports side.

Wilt could take a STANDING JUMP from the free throw line and DUNK the ball, do you have ANY conception of what kind of coordination and PURE athleticism that requires. Dr. J? M J? forget about it, they had to take a RUNNING jump there is a very big difference.

Wilt was helped by the fact that he soared over most of the player of his era. Besides, we talking two different eras here. 80-90s player are much faster, taller and stronger than in the 60-70s. If you put MJ during Wilt's era, he probably would dominate it as well. But since we can never compare them in the same situation, I simply contend with the fact that they're both great player.
IF Steve Francis or Allen Iverson were 7'1" with the same skill level as now, they would BOTH dominate MJ at any point in his career, SO WHAT.
IF IF IF Yao over the summer really improved his conditioning, IF all of a sudden Yao became very athletic, IF yao developed a real low post game and NEXT season had a MIRACULOUS 50 ppg 20 rpg season (Wilt at his best), would their be ANY doubt in your mind as to the greatness of such a player?
Wilt HAD MJ type athleticism at 7'2", ONE MORE TIME, HE COULD FREAKING BROAD JUMP FROM THE FREE THROW LINE AND DUNK THE BALL. HE would dominate NO MATTER WHICH ERA OF bball your talking about.

I agree, a bad person is a bad person. OJ is a bad person, he is also STILL in my mind one of the greatest running backs ever.
By the same logic, a good athlete is a good athlete NO matter what kind of person he is.
I made that point with Barry bonds, people hate him because of his arrogance or whatever, to me he's a great baseball player and his arrogance is an entirely different issue.
I acknowledge and always have acknowledged MJ as one of the top 5 players of all time, but if i were starting a team today he might be my 3rd or 4th pick. without question i'd take Wilt and Magic before i take MJ.

Yes, LeeTJ, Mike is one of the greatest players ever. Even if he gambled, quit and came back (twice), slept with some girl while he was going through a divorce. I could pick many other good/great players who set a worse example.

Dangit! I still don't know what changes came about because of Wilt. The only thing I can think of is that Lee keeps mentioning how Wilt could stand at the line and jump and dunk, so did players used to be able to jump when shooting free throws?

Now this is coming from PROFESSIONALS WHO PLAY THE GAME. So I think I'll believe the MILLIONS of people who consider him to be the single greatest NBA player of all time, vs a hater on AT.

besides, most of my posts were about WILTS Excellence not about how bad MJ was.
And MJ DIDN'T revolutionize the game. HE changed the way that the NBA WAS MARKETED but THAT'S NOT THE GAME. that's the NBA.
NBA doesn't allow their young players to criticize MJ because of what it would do to the image.
Once again, the most telling thing this off season is the FIRING of MJ by the wizards. that's how well the other players REALLY liked him even tho they may not say it publically.
