The kids love the KDs because they come in a billion and one color combos. So you can get blaze orange shoes, with green highlights and pink laces.

My kid hates those gaudy shoes -- he plays in (near) plain white. We custom order them from Nike ID (shockingly not much more than off the shelf basketball shoes). All his teammates where shoes that have nothing do with the team's color scheme -- makes no sense to me.

Back when I was living in NOLA, I'd walk past a Foot Locker at ~7am to get to work every day. Any time there were new Jordans coming out, people were already lined up and looked like they had been camping all night.

And still can beat all of his team in 1 on 1. Which says a lot for him, and not much for his drafting skills.

He says he can, but can he really? He is old and not nearly as strong and physically dominant as we was. He might still be able to shoot, but he doesn't have his quickness or his stamina that he did in the early 90s.

Even Nike wasn't on board complete with the Air Jordan 1, but they came around by the 3, when it became apparent Jordan could move products. He also has complete ownership of his likeness.

And now, Nike does the smart thing and create a false scarcity for their best sellers. They release retros that sell out in minutes.

There's no way Jordan could survive playing starter minutes in a best of 7 series ... But he still has a nearly impossible to defend turnaround jumper, and without modern refs calling "hand checking" he can still guide a player where he can defend.
I'd imagine Jordan can play at an elite level for 5 minutes ... Then go home and rest, while his players start a full day of practice.

Jordan would break a hip or pull a muscle before lasting 5 minutes against a real NBA player. He might be able to do a turn around jumper, but how many times can he jump off and get the necessary distance to be "impossible to defend"?

No. But I'm guess they ended up selling a SHIT TON of new merchandise and clothing. That's why teams change uniforms/names/colors and have alternates for every day of the week. It's retail sales, not Ws and Ls

This, Jordan was a once in a century figure like Babe Ruth. When even my Mennonite grandmother who knew basically nothing about sports said she wanted to see him play before he retired for the 3rd and last time you know he's a universal phenomenon.
