i have worked as an outsourcing consultant, and have seen the value added and cost savings of moving coding/development, IT, customer support, etc offshore. the firm i work for now does a lot of their engineering and design in mumbai as well. we are very pleased with the quality of work, and so are our clients.

i have been on some other projects developing supply chain models and global sourcing options for different oil and gas companies. we are showing clients that moving a lot of their fabrication offshore (e.g. to india or malaysia), we can save them a lot of money without sacrificing quality. some of our clients are getting ripped off by their primary american suppliers, who like to bully them around.

lol, I said PROBABLY true, I don't know what the guy is thinking. But the fact si companies like dell send jobs to India because most Americans lack discipline and ask for too much money. Indians work BETTER for LESS.
i don't know if i'd say better but it is for less. any time i have had to deal with Dell support via India i haven't had pleasant results. i've had to ask for another tech a few times just to get one i could understand, and some of them get pissy if you can't understand them because of their accent LIKE IT'S MY FAULT!!!111

Seems that you have not exposed yourself to other cultures enough. I have called many Indian call centers and never had a problem. Then again my friends/coworkers are a diverse group and I hear a lot of accents every day.

Yeah you caught me. I really just went out of my way to type more about Michael Dell, so you wouldn't think I hate an ethnic group.

what the fvck does that have to do with exposing myself to other cultures? 😕
stop trying to play that card.

i am not alone as an English speaking citizen who has a hard time understanding Dell techs because of the THICK accent some of them possess. i end up having to ask them to repeat themselves and then they get annoyed with me. how rude.

Nah, he would just move it to India and charge 2x as much and make even more money.

If you don't like it complain to the politicians and hope they put some kind of tarriffs on labor overseas (good luck enforcing it).

Meanwhile continue to enjoy your <$350 DELL PC w/ 17" LCD Monitor deal.

Heh. My PC isn't a Dell 😛 ... nor do I have a LCD at home...

Of course, I type from work ... a full Dell setup ... :\

Just saying there are a lot of Americans who unless you speak to them in a slow drawl they get confused. You pick up different accents by being exposed to them.

and I could see how someone could be easily annoyed by you.

I never said he was, all I know is when I saw this disclaimer first thing I thought was "oh god this is going to be bad."

But I think racism does play an inherent part in the whole job outsourcing controversy, a lot of people in the U.S. still see it as a person of color taking a job away from a white man.

i've never seen in it terms of "color" until you just mentioned it. i've seen it in terms of they will do it for cheaper so companies don't care if the quality drops. they just see the bottom line.

yes, its just good business to lower costs

if Dell doesn't lower costs, then they'll have to raise prices. you want to pay more for Dell products? no you don't

Globalization is the result of many factors and constraints that have occurred over a very long period of time. To blame 1 man for outsourcing is not very fair. If you're really upset about the outsourcing and the loss of US jobs to foreign labor markets (although, one could easily argue that Dell isn't outsourcing US jobs per se) then you should start buying products made in the US and stop buying products at places like Walmart and such that have built overseas supply chains.

Well nice to see you represent the views of 100% of all Americans, all because you aren't racist doesn't mean everyone else isn't as well.

so it's our fault that dell hires customer service agents who can barely be understood in this hemisphere?

#1 Hint: Americans are not a race they are a nationality.
#2 Look at standardized test scores over the past 20 years, Americans scores have constantly gone down while scores of devloping countries have gone up, many people associate it to the lack of discipline associated with the TV culture.
#3. Americans wages are among the highest in the world so I don't think it is a stretch saying Americans want more.

And Corporate Profits and Returns on Investment are at the top of the list. Where it crosses over into "greeg" per se is an individual value.
If your job is outsourced one might call it greed.
If your Dividend check or IRA value goes up , one might not.

Given that China and India ,individually, have a population and subsequent labor pool that far exceeds the size of the TOTAL US population, it is simplistic to think that we would retain our former manufacturing base. What hasen't kept pace is US workers wages. Neither has spending on education. Until and unless the US (as a whole) recognizes that education, and it's ancillary professions, are key to maintaining our lead in the world's economy, we will continue to see vital aspects of our nations autonomy slip away.
As other nations gain a "grip" on the goods and services that drive our nation, we risk being choked into submission by those nations that would seek to impose their own set of National Imperatives.

"What we have here, is a failure to educate." </ cool hand luke>

Indian tech support can't possibly be any worse than American. If anything, they are better than the lazy, shiftless 17-25 year olds here in the USA. I know I'm lazier than an Indian.

Technically America isn't a nation. A nation is an ethnic group- ex: Kurds, Cherokee Nation.
