You mean Jay Leno can't hold a candle to any of these guys (and gal). I would be quite happy to take 1% of any of these fortunes over Leno's car collection.

Granted, Leno looked like he was having fun in that Porsche Carrera GT.

Does it really matter his "fortunes" don't compare? Hell no, he'll be set for life if he retired right now. Unlike the above mentioned guys, Jay is a car enthusiast - these guys are just rich. :p

exactly. I think it's awesome that Paul Allen uses a B-series when he's in Seattle.

Not what I would expect from the richest.

I'd imagine when you are as successful as those guys, you don't really put importance on the same things we all do.

Probably, but a 13 year old volvo? No one says you have to go out and get a Bent. Cont. GT....but update it once in a while. ;)

Volvo people are NUTS. There are a LOT of very wealthy people that refuse to drive anything but a classic RWD Volvo. I bought one myself and can definitely see the appeal.

I think if I were a billionare I would own a lot of exotic cars. Not so much because of their status, but just because I love cars. Look at Leno, he has an immense amount of cars just because he loves them.

I have to imagine Leno's net worth is much more than 1% of, say, Ballmer's fortune. In spite of his extravagant car collection, he hasn't spent a dime of his Tonight Show money - he lives exclusively off his standup income - and he makes $30M/year. Other than his cars, he doesn't appear to lead an extravagant life. I imagine he is well over $100,000,000, and potentially much much higher.

Not all rich people love cars too. If you don't LOVE cars, there's little a 100K$ car would give you that a 40K$ car wouldn't.
Still, cars have a much broader appeal than a status symbol.

Besides, someone does buy all those Maybachs/Rolls's/Bentleys - other than rappers, I mean ;)

The different between Leno and those guys is, Leno is a car guy and always has been. Even before he got rich and famous he was into cars. His money just lets him pursue his passion. Those guys have interests that don't include cars, and they don't need the status of a fancy car, so they don't buy them.

see but this was a thing brought up in another thread over on TCL

these are PERSONAL cars... when you are getting chaufered around in a Bentley, or a Limo all day .... why do you need to have a super exotic car collection?

I get a kick out of Warrent Buffet though.

I was wondering that myself

Probably because it is a more sorted, easier to drive car.

911, even the latest ones, don't get high marks for creature comforts. Billionaires don't need to get something more expensive as a status symbol, that's for just-turned-millionaires:p

This has been suggested already, but I'll elaborate...

All this says is that they're not car people. If I were a billionaire I would have a family of vintage sports cars, without question. I love cars, and I couldn't care less about flash. I think it goes without saying that you spend more on that which interests you than the average person.

I've been in Michael's pad. Nice place.

Edit: they forgot to mention his black S600.

Paul Allen, wasn't he killed by Patrick Bateman? ;)

If I was rich I'd get a Delorean with automatic transmission and a used truck. The truck would just be for hauling crap, and I'd try to get something under $12,000. Really, what do you need expensive cars for, anyway? To me, a car is just something with four wheels that I need to get around.
