Really though, this guy's books read like movies. My favorite by him is Timeline, which I highly recommend. I finished it and knew it would make a wonderful movie and was delighted to find out that it will be released this year. Fabulous. And, though I hate to buy hardcovers, the temptation of his new book Prey made me such today and I had to buy it. Mikey I loves ya!

One of my favorite authors as well, though I wouldn't consider Timeline to be his greatest work. It was an awesome story, though.

his best book was probably Jurassic Park, with Sphere a close second.

Timeline was great in the beginning with all the technology stuff, until it turned into a Medievel action-adventure, then it wasn't quite the page-turner.

Yep, I just started Timeline a few days ago and it's one of the best book's I've read. Granted I'm only half way through, but it's really good. :D I've also read Jurassic Park twice.

Question was the 13th warrior a book by him or just a script? The movie kinda sucked...

I agree. Of the Michael Chricton books that I've read, I think I enjoyed Timeline the least. Read too much like a movie. That's why I don't like reading Tom Clancy.

Jurassic Park is the best. :)

Yup....and the book/short story is actually worse than the movie, IMO.

Prey is pretty lame. Too short and not enough in depth discussion of the technology, very little character development, and a rushed plotline. Timeline was pretty crappy too, IMO. Sphere was definitely my favorite of his books.

JP was good, but I think the best was Sphere, followed by Timeline. The newest, Prey, was very much a page turner though.

I hate buying hardcover books because they only last me a few hours.

I bought Prey out of sheer boredom at an airport bookstore, it lasted through my wait + 1/2 the flight from DC to Chicago.

Oh well.

The book was based on a 10th century Arabic manuscript.

That's what the books original name was, it has been changed since. But the book was actually based on an old arabic manuscript.

Oh and his formula is getting WAY old.

Team of scientists + remote location + science gone wrong = book. :disgust:

Actually Eaters of the Dead just pretended to be based on a 10th century Arabic manuscript. Crichton is truly one of the greatest bullsh!ters ever.
In addition to the other mentioned, I've always enjoyed Airframe. I wonder why they never made that one into a movie. Too brutally honest about the media, I guess ;) :p
