Who would you pick to direct your big budget summer blockbuster?

Emmerich: Stargate, Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow, 2012
Bay: The Rock, Armageddon, Pearl Harbor, Transformers

Emmerich.

His movies aren't top of the line either but I can find some redeeming qualities them in the sense that they are still enjoyable to watch. The first Transformers had this quality to it but the other ones were just horrible.

Now if I could pick any director.... That would be James Cameron.

In the pantheon of summer action blockbuster directors

Cameron > Ridley Scott > Emmerich > Almost Anyone except Uwe Boll > Michael Bay

Man this latest Transformers movie was pretty bad. Way worse than The Island. But the visual effects in those movies can't be denied, and it takes a skillful director to pull off the fusion of live action and CGI that Bay does pretty much seamlessly through the Transformers series. The writing is just god awful.

Dumb question. The answer is Uwe Boll.

Uwe Boll is rarely included in polls because he is by default the worst director in any list of directors and that includes whoever is directing the kindergartens salute to puppies at your local grammar school.

Who gives a shit which one makes better movies?

Who do I want directing my summer blockbuster? The guy that is going to make me the most money. That certainly seems to be Bay.
