which mouse do you prefer? I've found myself thinking fondly of the ball mouse recently. I guess I just miss that feel of the mice balls.

Ball mice suck. You always have to take them apart to perform surgery when crap gets wrapped around the rollers.

i've never felt that way quite honestly. of course their not as precise as laser mice, but i just liked the overall feel of the ball moving across the pad, hitting a bump or two.

The major advantage with optical tracking isn't precision as much as it is ease of maintenance.

No more worrying about gunk on the rollers.

Ball mice work fine for a year or two. But once gunk starts building up on the rollers, you can scrape it off, but it just builds up faster and faster.

P.S. My mice are LED mice, not laser mice.

Ball mice suck. We have an ancient lab here at school that still has ball mice and it drives me crazy using them.

After awhile, they get weird, even when clean. The ball kind of hangs up inside, and doesn't roll like it's supposed to.

Wired laser.

Ball mice can be horrible when there is even a little bit of gunk caught in the rollers/sensors.

Laser mice have high sensitivity and don't have the gunk issue. My favorite mouse out of all the ones I've used so far has been the Razer DeathAdder.

My favorite mouse is the Logitech MX700. The G9 I'm using now beats it in every specification, but I prefer cordless mice, and the side buttons are more comfortable for me to press on the MX700.

The only ball mice I can really see anyone using anymore are of this type:

Deathadder uses infrared sensor. Laser mice used to have trouble with lower sensitivities and fast movement, don't know about now.

Yeah, screw ball mice. I like my intellimouse optical.

cvoted for mice balls since mine is optical not LAZZERZ I use MX518, its been rock solid for 4+ years now, had an MX500 before that for 3 years

Laser,

been rocking a Logitech G7 for years. i shed a tear when they discontinued it. imma have to pick up a few to keep around in case my current one dies

Yep, I still have my wired infrared DeathAdder. The new version has higher DPI, but 1800 is quite nice, and I can adjust sensitivity on-the-fly in-game.

I use a trackball at work (everyone hates it and it keeps them off my work pc, IT included ) and laser mouse at home.
