Mice/driver managers like Steer Mouse, free perhaps?

I have a Logitech g9 laser mouse and it unfortunatley is not a mac compatible mouse.

I have Steer Mouse and it seems to work fine for the back and forward scroll left right up down features (the mouse works for clicking and stuff even without steer mouse). Steer Mouse costs $$$ however.

Before I pay for it I wanted to see if anyone knew of any free mouse managers out there that work as well as steer mouse?

thanks!

$20 is still $20. That's a dinner out, or half a tank of gas, etc... it's still a bit to pay. And while, I agree that it's not a whole lot of money. If there's an option to get a freeware app to do the same thing, why pay for SteerMouse?

Support developers that made good software? Especially when it so happens here that there are no comparable alternatives, and the OP too agreed that it worked well for him. $20 is nothing when stretched out over the time that you'll be using the software. $20 of gas also doesn't get you very far with the prices these days ;)

I've happily dropped the $20 myself, and it works flawlessly with my MX Revolution.

I support many developers that have great software, even when there are freeware alternatives.. simply because the paid software has better support.

I'm not arguing that it's wrong to buy software, or that you should cheat them all the way to the bank... I'm just saying it's not wrong to NOT buy the software. Sometimes it honestly isn't worth the money. And $20 does add up if you buy a bunch of software. I got Yojimbo, Transmit, SuperDuper!, and a few others within a couple days and before I realized it I had spent $150.

Either way, whatever floats your boat.

I am sort of with Kmax82 on this one. $20 is an awful lot of money for what basically amounts to a driver. Sure, it is an excellent driver, with fancy features, but shouldn't these features be supported by Logitech? This isn't software that unlocks some magical thing (at least I don't think it does) or anything, or allows the mouse to greatly go beyond what it was designed for, this is a driver that lets you use all the buttons.

Now, feel free to flame me for this since it has been forever and a day since I last used Steermouse. I never needed much out of my VX Revolution that the default OS X support didn't provide, and have since stopped using my VX on my MacBook since I no longer have Windows on there.
