Mic problems

I recently got a new logitech cheap headset but i realised yesterdasy the microfone isnt working properly. My headset uses two plugs, one for the sound and one for the microfone, coloured black n pink respectively. Now I onticed on CS my mic was getting insane static and was unhearable. I have tried turning up volume in settings e.t.c but its still ******. I tried unplugging + replugging, even into other sockets but to no avail. I then pluggfed my old headset's micrfone (which definately works) and that wasnt working properly too, so it could either be the microfone socket (which I doubt) or some settings on my computer.

Any help?

1. It's microPHONE

2. Try looking in sound and audio devices, I know there is the option for a 10dB or something boost....turn that off if its on

well i go to what u said and i find the sound recording section with Realtek AC97 Audio set as the sound recorder. The only options I have are volume (which is on full) and advanced which is blanked out and unclicable.

go to the volume tab, click advanced, go to options, properties, select recording, click ok. click advanced on the microphone input. See hwat is selected there

after i go to volume and advanced only one window comes up with some bass options (which i cant edit becos it doesnt supoport them) and some 1 mic boost option, which was ticked. I unticked it but no change.
